QAM Channel Maps - List Your Channels

so, here is my question.... Is anybody getting more unencrypted HD channels when you change from Cable "Basic" to some higher level of cable service (like HD suite) or something..?

What I am wondering is does the cable company unencrypt at the cable company or does the STB do the unencrypting...?


I have the basic service in Raleigh, NC, and I get the local channels in HD via the cable and the HDHR QAM. (No STB) If I upgrade to Digital and add the HD suite...will I get more unencrypted channels without using the STB?

Unless the cable company has some sort of filter on your line, you won't get more open QAM channels based on your cable package.

The cable company sends out a set of channels out via open-QAM (unscrambled) and the rest are sent out scambled-QAM. You need the STB to unscramble the scrambled-QAM channels.

Unless you have been filtered to prevent you from getting the open-QAM channels, you get all the open-QAM channels that the cable company provides. The cable that you have coming into your house is the same as everybody else.

No, they don't unscramble them from the source, that's what the STB or cable card is for. I recently got digital cable (free trial) and had a cable card put in the TV so I can watch the scrambled HD channels, but my HDR-1600 doesn't see any more channels than it had before.

not likely, knowing their mentality around here. but I'm due for rescanning the lineup as several changes have taken place since I set up my tv/hdhr earlier this yr.

Speed 74-7 [74-0-7] has no audio on my HDTV. SageTV auto-tune may pick it up but still can't tune in to it (no signal).
74-8 [74-0-8] is another History digital channel same as 94-10 [94-0-8]

Hello, I just picked up a HVR-1800. I am able to get about 16 digital channels including my local channels in HD. But I am unable to get the Hallmark channel which was part of the deal for the WAF. Does anyone have a recent channel map for Portland Oregon on comcast? The only channel map on here is on page 2 and is 1 year old.

When using the above website I am not sure how to imput that information into sage tv. I assume that the channel and program headers at the top fo the list are expressed like this in sagetv for tuning a channgel:

Channgel = 76-3

but what about the other things that sagetv asks for?

With the HVR-1800, i'm pretty sure you just do a channel scan.

yeah, i did. but when i scan using hauppage 1800 i come up blank so didn't know if that earlier reference was accurate or not. could have a bad card, i suppose. it does fine on analog but returns absolutely zero on QAM. any ideas?
