New Version 1.2.4

- Fix for icons showing on clients when they shouldn't. (Only a problem on real clients, not MVP's) Now they should only show when the edl or txt file is accessible from the client, and not just when they are present on the server. Thanks Scott

No other updates

Hi John -- as you noticed on my errant cross-post on the Comskip thread, I mentioned not having a "Close" or "Done" button on the setups options. I just downloaded and installed 1.2.5 (as per my sig, I've got an MVP), and the Options window looks the same to me as with 1.2.4.

A) Am I correct in assuming my problem is that there is a button, but it's just off-screen? If so, then B) 1.2.5 doesn't appear to fix it for me. The bottomost setting I see is for No Comskip Icon. And that's on both the server and the MVP.

If 1.2.5 wasn't meant to address this, then please consider it a feature request. (Workaround is to hit the Options [yellow] button on the Hauppage remote )

Thanks!

Steve, yes the update was to fix your problem. The close button was down off screen on the MVP. The Comskip Icon and No Comskip Icon buttons have been combined.

Can you check the date on the Comskip_Playback.stvi

The new version Options look like this.

FYI:

Dunno about anyone else, but the files Comskip_Playback_124.zip and jrekiwi-comskip-playback-for-default-stv-v125.zip are identical. The dates of the stv for both are 1/8/07. I'm just guessing the wrong file was named 125 and uploaded for redistribution.

10 house points. The download is the correct one now. It's a function of the download pages that renames the files based on the download title.

Thanks, John!

ToonGal beat me to the post. Just an FYI to others: I had to clear my browser cache and reload the download page to get the correct version.

Everything looks just like the pic you posted on both on the server side and on the MVP. And thanks for making the icon choice a sub-menu. Much cleaner!

Help!

Sorry guys but I can't get the Comskip playback to work.

What does "Step 3. Load the import" mean?

What import?
How do I do that?

Thanks!

Loading an import means to go to Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced, then select "Import SageTV Application Package".

In this case, you would import comskip_playback.stvi from this customization's zip file.

John,

Is your STV capable of running a script when a movie is selected to be watched and there is NO corresponding .edl (or .txt/etc) file associated with it?

Reason I am asking is that I would like to automatically start SA (ShowAnalyzer) for a recording that has no SA information for it when it is selected for watching.

I don't want to run DirMon2 all day because it keeps all of my 6 drives awake. I want to run DirMon2 at night only for a few hours, but during the day, have SA be launched only if no .edl, .txt, etc files exists when a show is selected for playback.

So what I am looking for is if your STV can launch a script if above condition exists AND pass on the name of the recording for which there is no .edl, .txt, etc file assocaited with it.

The short answer is no.

I'll have a look and see what would be involved in doing that.

New Version

(1.3)
- Added function to optionally run and pass parameters to an application/script when a video is watched

Parameters passed are:
%1 = MediaFile
%2 = Title
%3 = Episode
%4 = Description
%5 = Channel Number
%6 = Duration
%7 = Date
%8 = Category
%9 = SubCategory

Setup is via the Comskip Playback Options and include

Run if No Comskip Files = TRUE - will only run the selected application/script if No Comskip files (either edl or txt) exist.
Run if No Comskip Files = FALSE - will run the selected application/script always.
Date Format = Allows changing the format of the date passed as %7

I've included a modified version of the comskip.cmd batch file which allows setting different parameters based on the channel a show was recorded on.

John

Just out of curiosity, how does this help you?

If you're running SA at the same time you're watching it, you're not going to get a good analysis.

Are you just using it for cutting commercials prior to archiving?

I haven't used SA in ages, but I agree this was a problem with the program. It may still be true, but it is not entirely true with comskip.

Comskip processes the show as it records and writes the results to a edl or txt file so that you have "live" detection. The results are of course not as accurate as what you get when processing a completed recording. They are still better than no detection IMO.

What made me drop SA and start using comskip was the fact that comskip ran a quick check (took only a few seconds) once the recording was completed to compare the results to the entire recording and then updated the edl or txt file if necessary. With comskip the results on completed recordings were always the same whether I processed them as they recorded or afterwards. With SA there was always a big difference in accuracy when processing shows live. I always just assumed it didn't perform the extra little check at the end.

So basically with comskip you can have live detection without losing accuracy on completed recordings.

Cool

I will try comskip instead.

To me, this setup is the best of both worlds for keeping drives as idle as possible. I can setup comskip or SA to do commercial detection during the night only at specific times, but if a show was recorded between last check and when it is watched, then John's new feature will start up comskip on the spot.

Best way to go in my opinion.

OK, I think I have v1.3 loaded, but I'm not seeing the extra options to run the external app. How does one get to them, again?

Great work on the Import, btw.

Thanks hemicuda,

Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Comskip Playback Options

The panel should show v1.3 in the title. The Start on Watch Options are at the bottom of that panel.

There was some problems with the download, in that it magically reverted back to an old version, but it is the right version now.

Well, no version info anywhere on the Options screen. Guess I'll try the d/l again and see what happens. It's new enough to have the CS Icon setting.

Edit: ok, it seems to be all there now. I edited the comskip.cmd file to point to the exact path ("C:\Program Files\SageTV\comskip79_70\comskip.exe" %1) of comskip. Assuming I don't need to specify the -ini option that should make it happy, right?
