I tried that but no go. When I try to run comskip on a particular recording it gives an error message that it cant run.

what do you mean, "try to run comskip"?

How are you trying to run comskip? Most people are automating comskip triggering via dirmon, dirmon2, or comskip monitor.

edit: my bad, I didn't realize that the plugin allows you to manually trigger a comskip.

I have dirmon running show analyzer which is properly creating the edl files. The problem is for some reason the comskip playback on the client wont run automatically or manually. This is getting really frusturating.

ok, you are getting your .edl files created on the server. I thought you were saying that you were trying to start a comskip generation through the UI and it was then giving you the error.

AFAIK, if the client can't get direct access to the .edl file, it would ignore the file, since it wouldn't even have knowledge that the file existed.

DO this, go into the recording details for a recording. DOes it show the location as a drive letter like F:\recordings\tvshow-12345.mpg or as a UNC path like \\sever\recordings\tvshow-12345.mpg?

DOes your client have permissions to the recording folder on the sever? If not, comskip won't work. If you can't get UNC to work, could you map the same path on the client that the server uses?

It displays as F:\recordings\tvshow-12345.mpg even though I told it to use UNC. I'll try configuring it as a mapped drive and see if that works. I should have permissions on the client because I can play the recorded shows (just no commercial skipping) and imported videos from the server.

That is because you told Sage to use UNC for new recordings. When Sage recorded tvshow-12345 on the F: drive, it logged that info into the database. Even though you have now told Sage to use a UNC folder for recording now, Sage still sees tvshow-12345 at it's original location, so it hasn't modified the recording path to show the UNC location.

Depending on how many existing recordings you have, that may be best. Otherwise, if you leave it as is with new recordings going to the UNC folder, new stuff should comskip on the client fine.

that may or not be true. If your client doesn't have direct access to the recording (no matching F:\drive path to the recording) it will stream the recording through the server via Sage (Sage doesn't stream the .edl file to the client, that is why you need direct access.)

Ok thanks it looks like the new shows are working properly on the client using the UNC. I'll see if I map it if the old shows will work.

OK. sounds like you got it figured out.

edit: just to let you know, when you set up a mapped drive on the client, you need to get the file path to the recording folder to be exactly the same on the client. So, you will need to share the ROOT of the F: drive on the server as something like "F-drive" and then on the client map F: to \\server\F-drive . That way the paths will match.

From the first post

Show Timeline on Skip Enabled/Disabled
When Enabled the timebar will display momentarily when skipping a commercial. (Some people like to see some feedback when auto skipping)
When Disabled, it won't.

showing CS but not in the timebar

I just installed the latest beta (3.3 I think) and I can't get the timeskips to showup on the timebar but I can get the CS to show on recordings that do have commercial skips. What did I miss?

Did you reimport the comskip STVi after you upgraded? If not, try that.

You need to use the version from the first post

The current version is Comskip Playback 1.4.9 (24 October 2007)
The test version is Comskip Playback 1.5.0b3 (26 November 2007)

(1.4.9)
- Removed restriction of only working on .mpg .avi .ts (should work on any video file that has a comskip file)
- Fix file naming so should now work on linux
(1.5.0)
- Support for SageTV 6.3.1

Grab 1.5.0b3.

another issue

I got the 5b version up and running yesterday. But now when I am watching stuff the marker isn't moving along the time line. When I try to jump forward it cancels the watching altogether.
Anyone else experience this?

Did you do a fresh import into SageTV3.xml and not a reimport into the existing?

Beta change log?

I noticed there is are several beta versions floating around, but it's hard for me to tell what 's been changed in each beta version without having to read through every post.

Similar to how you have the change log for the stable versions, can you post what's been changed with each beta? When do you anticipate the next stable version to be released? Maybe when the next stable version of Sage is released (hopefully this week)?

Will do.

There hasn't been any function changes during this cycle, just changes to the import code and adding more logging. I got caught out during the last few betas with doing a "release" version with new SageTV version support during the beta that then needed to be changed again as there were STV changes during the beta. But as soon as 6.3 is release then B3 will probably become the "release" version.

With the release of SageTV 6.23 I've updated the version on the download site

(1.5.0)
- Support SageTV 6.3
- Add additional debug logging

No changes from 1.5.0b3
