Thanks for the reply hemicuda. I do have it setup for UNC paths, the service was working in the past so I'm not sure. I will have to double check which user the service runs under.

you are correct. it unloads and reloads the service into the list and the batch file doesn't know how to or isn't written to use a specific login. that's why I try to edit the properties file manually. it's not an overly complicated file except for the extra \ needed in paths. must be a java thing.

It definitely was the service not set up to run as a user. I didn't realize that it changed after running setup.bat. I think that definitely needs to be a change to the features (if possible). All is working perfectly again.

Steep, found an interesting situation while trying to do some tuning of comskip.
I changed cleanup.file.extensions so that the .log files would not be deleted. Following that, Comskip Monitor continuously runs comskip, reprocessing all my recordings, including all the ones that already have been processed, again and again. I've tried doing a manual delete of the .log files to see if that stop sit from reprocessing the recordings, but it makes no difference. Setting the cleanup.file.extensions to include .log files returns Comskip Monitor to it's normal operation of only processing unprocessed recordings. John |

Exceptioon Error on Install ??
Downliaded and ran setup ...
DOS Box opened up and gave me the followiong Exception Error ?? Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: CSMConfig wrapper | OpenSCManager failed - Access is denied. (0x5) wrapper | OpenSCManager failed - Access is denied. (0x5) Press any key to continue . . . The service name is invalid. More help is available by typing NET HELPMSG 2185. Press any key to continue . . . Note; Running Vista, Sage 6.2.4 Client Beta and Java 6.1. Any Ideas?? Thanks, T. |

Sorry -Hayden *UPDATE: Googled turned up this post at Sun's website about Java services not working. Looks like only Java ver 5 or 6 is compatible with Vista. would there be an easy way to make CSM wait on autocompress to finish before running? Thanks to the way Sage renames the files the first pass on the original is wasted clock cycles. This may not be possible since I run comskip while recording. Right now I just have one show that gets recompressed to SD from HD, but if there were an easy way to do it I'd try.

Just a note to say this solution has been working flawlessly for me for several months now, and my wife just loves the transparency of it. It took me a little while to get everything set up, as I had some confusion with the paths and the owner of the process, but once that was sorted, it's been perfect. Very easy to configure, other than the service ownership.

Is comskip monitor able to start multiple instances of comskip simultaneously? While comskip monitor is working great for me I would like to have multiple shows processed at the same time.

I have XP Pro with java 1.6 and my service doesn't start either. Also SageTV is going to start including v1.6 in the installer in 6.3.7RC so I really hope getting java 1.6 support isn't too bad.
I like this Commskip/Monitor combo so much I may find a 1.4 version copy to get my new server going. |

Make sure you're using a user with a password and admin privileges or the service won't start.

I'm running XP with the newest versions of sage, comskip, comskip monitor, and java 6. I have no problems with my services. I haven't even had to change the owner at all.

Me too. I even updated to java 1.6 after I had installed comskip monitor. no problems.

Did you remove the version of java Sage tries to install?
You see I stopped my installation and then manually installed only v1.6 so I don't have 1.2 or 1.4 also installed. I'm pretty sure the login only effects shared drives and read protected files. However CommSkip Monitor is configured to login using the same user as the SageTV service does. Here is my config maybe I botched something else. Code:
