I have resisted making this step, as I generally like to avoid installing more than I need. I was hoping to make this work just with the latest Sage. Any advice for my situation? BTW, when I made wd-channel-35 a keyword favorite, it has still not marked off an upcoming show on Ch 35. The log shows "No shows marked." Ken |

JREkiwi ported the new UI functionality to the default STV, and I incorporated it into 2.2, so you don't need SageMC for this. Quote:

Is this Anti-Favorite import only for IR , or will work with static Favorites ?
What are all the files I need, to use it with default 5.0.4 ?

The only additional instructions are that if you are using the Default STV you will need to rename favorite_excluder_2_3.xml to favorite_excluder_2_3.stvi so that you can import it.
The Create Favorite Exclude Button is displayed in the Advanced Option panel for a recording. A new panel "Favorite Excluder Default STV" can be added to a menu using Nilem's dynamic menus. If not using Nielm's menus it will appear under Schedule Recordings. There are also Setup/Customize entries for setting the properties. John |

I think my confusion was misreading the first post, specifically, the difference between IR exclusions and regular favorite exclusions.
I had thought that you could a global anti-favorite for all Favorites. Now, upon re-reading, it appears that an anti-favorite must be attached to a specific keyword favorite. So instead of making a favorite: wd-channel-35 I now have wd-channel-35-favk-College Football Michigan I guess in a few days, I'll know if this new (to me) syntax does the trick. OK, now for some extra questions: Let's modify my favorite "College Football Michigan". In addition to discluding channel 35, I'd like to also disclude channel 8. Possible? Now, let's say I want to record games that include "Michigan" but disclude shows that include "Michigan State". Possible? Thanks, Ken |

Let's go back to my original case, where I want to have a keyword favorite="College Football Michigan", but I want to disclude matches that are on Ch 35. Do I first need to have a regular keyword favorite, followed by a separate favorite that is an anti favorite, e.g. Code:
[College Football Michigan] Code:
[wd-channel-35-favk-College Football Michigan] Or, do I only need the second line? (Your explanation above makes me think I need both lines.) Ken |

maybe the confusion still stems from the old 1.x implementation where excludes themselves were defined as favorites. But in 2.x the favorite excludes are defined in a separate file 'fav_excluder.def" (which you can edit manually, but it's easier through the Sage UI) and do not use the Sage favorites any longer. So you would first need a regular Sage keyword favorite [College Football Michigan] to tell Sage it should schedule any of those shows, and then create a favorite exclude definition (in your example [wd-channel-35-favk-College Football Michigan]) which excludes some of those scheduled shows by marking them as watched or dont-like. The favorite excludes themselves do not trigger any new scheduling, they only operate on existing regular favorite or IR schedules. Hope this makes it a bit clearer. Dirk |

Yes, this is perfectly clear. I encourage you to add it to either the first post of this thread, or in the documentation available at the download site. Thanks for answering all of my questions! Ken p.s. btw, one small feature request. When defining exclusions using the Sage UI, the end of a long line does not seem visible. When you reach the end of the allotted space in UI, a "..." pops up, but you cannot see what you are typing. It is good to know that I can do this in the .def file directly, but you might want to reconsider that UI. |

this is actually a shortcoming of the Sage core, it doesn't offer any other more sophisticated text input widgets. It bothered me too, and that's why I implemented a scrollable text widget myself for use in SageMC. I don't have any incentive to port this to the default STV, but if someone is interested I would be glad to share the java code for it. Dirk |

Hi Dirk, they've changed the widget tree to the video options panel in the default STV in Version 6, so I've updated the stvi to work with both Version 5 and 6.
For some reason I needed to restart the Sage client after importing before it would pick up the existing excluder.def file entries. John Edit: put up the correct zip file Last edited by JREkiwi; 10-08-2006 at 12:10 AM. |

Hi Dirk,
can't figure out how that happened. Updated the zip to the correct modded version. John |

Dirk, I installed the excluder v2.4 on sageMC6.13a and the anti-favorites sorta work. I can setup anti's in the program info, and have a custom menu set up to jump into the main excluder menu.
Unfortunately, the anti-favorite options menu in detailed setup doesn't work. It fails to display properly and tries to show over the existing menu. |
