Anybody having trouble with their 211 going into standby/off? I keep getting recordings of the screensaver and can't figure out why it keeps going off. I set the inactivity timeout to disabled and 8 hours.

I had the same problems. The inactivity timeout does not work. You have to disable the auto-update feature of the unit. I can't recall off the top of my head how to do it, but I'll check around and post back...

Here we go:

http://www.satelliteguys.us/archive/...p/t-58465.html

"I do the same thing leave my 211 on all the time so heres what you need to have disabled. to stop the screen saver from coming on.

And you are correct if the receiver auto updates in the early morning you get the screen saver and have to rehit power to turn the receiver back on no way around it unless you do the steps below.

Menu 6-1-6 disable updates (but your receiver will only update if you turn it off for the night)

Menu 8-7 and disable standby

That sould do the trick for you"

Lifesaver!

Do these instructions still work? I just got a ViP211 from Dish, disabled both options, and the receiver was off this morning. I wonder if an interim update "fixed" it so you can't disable the updates?

Also problem with VIP211 and USB-UIRT

Sorry but all of these code strings for changing channels mean nothing to me. I have tried to follow what has been done and create my own IR file.
I am having same problem as originator. Looks as tho Sage accepted commands but the created Ir file doesn't work.

It was also mentioned that you can get the USB-Uirt too close??

If some one could post a working VIP211 ir file here or send me a copy at richardhood36@bellsouth.net it would be much appreciated.

I notice Sage includes a Motorola control file. I would think it would be worthwhile to include a "Dish VIP-211" file in the software release.

Thanks, you guys do a great job.

Re:

I also use the VIP211 and have some problems.

USB-UIRT changes my channels correctly 90% of the time but it seems to fail the other 10% .... it seems to fail more often when tunning HBO channels (in the 300 range), I do not really understand why. The IR files posted here did not work, what worked was my old 301 receiver IR file with a RepeatCount of 3 .... I also replaced the first "0" in the first line by "1" as someone suggested and seemed to help, but not sure if it really does something. I saw some people writing to use 6 as repeatcount but it seemed to work better for me with 3.

Before with my 301 receiver channel changing worked 100% of the time. Do you have any suggestions for me? Can you send me or post your ir files so I can test them if they are different from the ones posted here already?

Regards,

This is an old thread with two very popular devices, the lack of replies shows that most don't have issues. You might go back to basics and try repositioning the USBUIRT and if not using emitters you might try them. I personally use only emitters and hood them on so no other light can make it to the IR rcvr on the box.

when i used a usbuirt with my 3 211s, i had all 3 stacked in a dark closet with the usbuirt sitting on a wedge in front of them, pointed at the middle box. was flawless for a couple years. most of the accuracy is dependent on proper learning. i learned the codes on my desktop, where i could keep the remote stable, and at a fixed distance (about 2 inches) from the uirt.

Sage does not learn the codes. I used my old 301 box codes which seem to be the same codes as the 211K (I saw somewhere that the codes did not change between dish network boxes). It works most of the time but once in a while it does not change correctly. The receive is not in a dark room, maybe it has something to do, but with the 301 it worked perfectly for 2-3 years.

301 codes should work with 211's, dish has pretty much never changed their remote codes.

if you cant learn them, then it sounds like you dont have the 56kHz enabled USB-UIRT. Ill try to see if I still have my 211 .ir files around somewhere.
