usb-uirt and vip211 receiver

Has anyone had a problem getting their USB-UIRT working with a DISH VIP211 receiver? It seems to learn the IR codes just fine (in fact, it "reads" the button press immediatley when training). But I rarely get any response from the VIP211 box when trying to change a channel. The LED is lighting, but most of the time the box doesn't respond at all. Occasionally, the box might think that the first number was sent (usually a "2"), but no other numbers are "caught"...

It worked fine with my Comcast box...

thanks,

Darryl

Until someone with actual knowledge of that box comes along who might know why there could be a problem... perhaps you did this already, but have you tried repositioning the USB-UIRT so the emitter is pointing towards the box in a different way?

On the Source Details page for the tuner using that box, use the Tuner Control options (starts on p. 157 in the v5 PDF manual) to test and/or reprogram the IR codes to see how well it works in different positions or after relearning a button.

I would give this a try. In my past experience with Dish receivers and IR emitters, the Dish receivers are very sensitive to where the emitter is placed. Dish's Receivers seem to emphasize UHF first and IR second, which may explain why their IR sensors do not seem to be very forgiving.

still testing...

Well, I've downloaded the snapstream demo, and had no problems getting the USB-UIRT to work with it. I'm going to compare the 2 USB-UIRT setups (milliseconde delay, etc...) to see if there's a difference. If not, any ideas about why the implemtation of the USB-UIRT could be different?

thanks,

Darryl

Perhaps different capabilities for uu_irsage.dll in the Common folder under the SageTV install location? Check with support@usbuirt.com to see if there has been an update for that file which might work better with your box.

I have the 211 and had similar problems. I had problems with 311 (non HD receiver) as well. I had to copy someone else's file. That file was for 301 receiver, but it worked fine. I am at work right now. If you want, I can send you my ir file when I get home.

FWIW, I believe you will want to make sure that your all trying to use the same Remote Address. Dish receivers alter their IR codes slightly, depending upon what Remote Address the reciever is setup to use. So, when sharing your IR files for Dish Receivers, make sure the recipient knows what Remote Address the creators receiver was configured for. Then, the recipient, can set his Dish Receiver accordingly.

I'm at the office right now, but when I get home I'll give it a try. Did you create it using the snapstream ir file?

Thanks, and I'll let everyone know how it works!

Yes I re-create it using the snapstream by re-edit it removing the word CHANNEL and few other thing in order to make it compatible with sagetv.

Ah Ha!!!

RepeatCount 6

needs to be entered after the first line!

I looked at the motorolla .ir file and saw it there. I also remember it from the snapstream setup.

Works like a charm!

So the learning part worked fine - we just need an easy way to set the repeat option.

Thanks to everyone who help - esp. to SHS!
