  • Alternatively, when you are installing an update over the current SageMC, within SageMC you can go to the settings menu of SageMC and select "Import STV" and select that SageMC16x9.xml file and hit enter.
One important thing to note is that you should be downloading the "upgrade" version of SageMC HERE - not the full install that you use for a first-time install.

I hope this helps. If not, let us know.
Hey Brent,

Bullet #1: Yep.

Bullet #2: Yep.

(both do the same)

Regarding upgrade vs. full version: That's what I had been doing (upgrading), but was having problems with the Netflix plugin. Per the recommendations (at least, how I interpreted them), I installed the full SageMC package. I figured I'd lose some settings, but not that big of a deal. Either way, I can't imagine why installing the full version instead of just the changes would do something like this?

Thoughts?

EDIT: I should note that it seems most of the pop-up windows look just fine. Everything else (seems to be theme-wise?) is a mess.

yes, both do the same - I was just making sure you did load the xml correctly which you did.

I'm not sure to be honest, but I do know I've always loaded the update version and not re installed the full version on top of itself.

Any chance you have a backup of the SageTV folder from before this happened? If so you could try re-loading from that. Note: If you do this, save your current sageTV folder in another place for a backup in case things don't get better.

Hopefully someone else will chime in with some suggestions as I'm out of them. Keep me posted on your progress.

DVD FF/Rew?

Hi,

When playing a DVD I want the FF/Rew buttons to skip the times I have defined, like in Live TV.

Instead of this it goes into FF mode, like on a VCR! I have multispeed disabled.

Is there a way to change this in SageMC (it works fine in the default STV)?

TIA,

Nick.

OK. I'm (mostly) successfully running SageTV 6.3.10 and SageMC 6.3.7.
But, I'm having trouble with the new "customizable online services" feature introduced in 6.3.9.
This feature lets you edit a file to add your own podcast feeds.
Although my custom feed is able to be accessed in the standard Sage interface, it does not show up on the SageMC interface.

New features in the default STV aren't automatically added into SageMC, they need to be ported manually by someone which can take a little while.

Yeah I figured it was something like that. So, I guess my post is a feature request.

Actually, if someone pointed me to a file or two the showed a similar feature, I might be willing to take a crack at porting the change.

It's on the to-do list based on this post. Dirk and Mike have been pretty good about getting those features added to SageMC. I'd guess we'll see it in the next month or so at least.

Corrupted HDD Mpg's not playing in SageMC

Hey guys,

I had a problem over the weekend, thanks to a faulty USB header my external HDD decided to lose all my video file entries on one of my video drives. I ended up having to use a NTFS file recovery utility to retrieve the files but thankfully I didn't lose anything. Well, I put the files into another Sage video directory on a reliable disk where my other files are located and restarted SageMC. The shows automatically showed up in my recordings list with all episode guide data intact however I couldn't play the files. Instead, they automatically start with the Stop, Restart, Delete screen not an error message. I almost half expected them to say that the file wasn't there but it finds the files but it can't play them.

I try to restart them and the screen appears immediately. I then sent them to my media import directory and tried to play them there but only a few of them imported automatically. They played fine but when I manually tried to play one of the others, it again popped up the Stop, Restart, Delete screen and would not play no matter how many times I restarted.

Here's the odd thing, just to make sure the files weren't corrupted I ran them through Windows media player and they were all A-OK. What gives?

Yeah, that seems right

I dont have a xerces.jar anywhere on my entire filesystem.
Well according to your log file it's in your classpath:

Sun 3/2 18:35:25.650 user.dir2=C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV
Sun 3/2 18:35:25.652 classpath=C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\Sage.jar;C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\xerces.jar;C:\Program

So either it's indeed in your SageTV directory, or the entry is just a leftover in your environment settings (System properties / Advanced / Environment Variables / CLASSPATH), in which case it doesn't harm...

This entry is fine, put there by the Java install.

You listed the files in your JARs directory, but you should look in your SageTV directory: C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\xerces.jar;

I'm not saying that this is the problem, but it might be worth a try

Dirk that did it for my RSS problems! Thank you. Now that I know about the Sage.Clients file, I hope to be more self-sufficient in the future.

Now if I can figure out this "corrupted HDD" saved Mpeg problem.

Dirk, its not there either. In fact, its not anywhere on my C: drive. It must be a pretty old jar file. I'm not sure where it came from and why it's still in the path. I appreciate your time. I've REALLY wanted to copy the style I have on my main menu to the rest of my menus for a while now...

Hi Michael,

right now I don't know what else to tell you. If you are really desperate, I can only think of one other thing to try: an absolute clean start with a new SageTV install. Although the following procedure should be absolutely safe, use at you own risk:
  • shut down UI and server
  • make a full copy of your root SageTV directory (which contains 'Common' and 'SageTV') including all subdirectories, let's name it 'SageTV.backup'
  • uninstall SageTV
  • delete the old SageTV directory completely (so that no old files remain)
  • install SageTV again (into the exact same path as the original installation)
  • install the full SageMC download package
  • copy your Sage.properties, SageClient.properties, sagemc_menu.xml, and Wiz.bin files from SageTV.backup to the new install directory. If you use a custom theme, you might want to copy this back too
  • start SageTV, it will probably start up with the default STV
  • load the SageMC STV
  • try if cloning works
  • if everything is well, you can start reinstalling your other plugins, one by one. After each install, check if the cloning functionality still works
If a clean reinstall still doesn't doesn't make a difference, or if you need to go back to the original install for any other reason, then
  • shut down server and UI
  • rename the new 'SageTV' root directory to something else, e.g. 'SageTV.junk'
  • rename your 'SageTV.backup' back to 'SageTV'
  • start server and UI, everything should be back as before. You can delete the new 'SageTV.junk' directory again
One warning: I assume you are running Vista with UAC disabled. If you have UAC enabled, then I do not know for sure if the above steps will backup all your original SageTV files, I think that in this case Vista will save some of the configuration files in a different location...

And again: use at your own risk - I am not using Vista myself, but I have done this procedure on my XP machine in the past without issues.

Dirk, there at least two other different people that have reported this same exact issue. Isn't there another way to find out what's causing the problem? Maybe there's something in common that all of us have? I could be wrong, but the suggestion you gave me is presuming that one of the imports I'm using is causing this problem. I am just using the most popular and newest imports... nothing out of the ordinary or old.

1) MovieTimes for SageMC
2) Netflix for SageMC
3) AMG for SageMC
4) Slimplayer for SageMC
5) Toolbar fox SageMC
6) Sleep Timer (This is the only relatively old one which needs updating for the latest sageMC).

If there's no good solution for us, maybe you could offer a manual way for us to copy the custom settings we have for the Main Menu for other dynamic menus. This would still be easier than reinstalling everything one by one.

Thanks again,
Michael

Could you try installing on another computer and see if you have the same issues there? If you have another computer that can run sage (just the UI - video capabilities are not required) then you can easily test stuff.

I mean really, who only has 1 computer these days

I'm only using MovieTimes and AMG, and have the same issue.

Kricker, can you tell us what imports you have installed on your machine? There has to be something all of us have in common that's causing this significant feature to break.

I have:
google calander
SageMC AMG
Video Edit
Anit-favorites

Although I tested my cloning ability with no imports loaded.

I will test what it does if I clean out my .jar folder and only have what is intalled by SageMC. Then I will test using flachbar's method above. Gimme 1 hour to post back results.

Also, my cloning is only half broken. The basic layout is copied, but not the detailed stuff such as font sizes within each onscreen item.

I did not mess with any of my JAR files or install. All I did was disable the server.

I disabled Server and all cloning import/export functions work perfectly. With Sage server running and SageTV as a client, things do not work quite right as we have described earlier.

I also noticed that sizing the text with the icon menu has a strange anomaly. With Server off, the number that shows the size of the text is properly shown and changes as you increase or decrease the text size. With Server on, this does not happen. The number stays fixed as the text changes size.

After creating a export with Server off, I was able to import this when I turned server back on. But any changes I make and try to export will not work properly. I have to do all my edits with server off.
