Cool. It appears that SageMC has malore's .smi CC support in it, and JREkiwi has updated the .smil CC parsing in the code. I'd hope that it would just be a matter of updating the .smi CC parsing code in SageMC to the latest build.

And hopefully the same code that SageMC already has that detects .smi files in recordings and automatically adds a "closed captioning" option to the options menu, could be added to the imports.

Oh, and if I was still begging for more, the auto-CC on mute would be great too, but I won't be greedy

Is there any work going on with DVD profiler integration to support version 3? Looks like 2.X is on it's way out and fast. It's a big problem for folks just trying to integrate it into SageMC from scratch.

Thanks,
Mike

Can't see "start early" portion of the timeline

I've been setting most of my favorites to start and end a minute early, because it seems like all of my shows end up starting about 30 seconds before whatever time Sage uses as the "official" start time.

Anyway, I've always been a little upset that you can't "see" that pre-minute on the timeline - you have to manually try to hit rewind to check if it's go to negative time. I assumed this was just the way it had to be. But then I checked the standard STV and saw that it clearly shows that extra minute, as well as a little line in the timeline to show where the "real" beginning of the show was. Is it possible to somehow incorporate this into SageMC?

Playback doesn't start at beginning of currently recording show

This may not be a STV specific issue, but I don't *think* I've noticed it the few times I've used the stock STV. If I'm wrong, I'll re-post in the correct place...

When I try to start watching a show that's already started recording but hasn't finished yet, often (if not all the time), the timebar shows that it's starting playback from the 0:00 mark, but the actual content being shown is from whatever the current time is. Hitting rew jumps it back to the very beginning of the recording. This can be:

1) confusing, if it's on a commercial for instance and when it comes back I think it's at the beginning of the show, when in reality I'm watching at the half way point.

2) angering, if it happens during a live sporting event. I start watching, expecting to start from the beginning and instead the first thing that pops up is the winner of the game celebrating.

By the way, this is happening when I select to watch the show through the recordings menu, not when I hit Live tv or select it from the guide or anything like that.

Same thing is happening for me as well.

Dirk, I've had a look and it's not too hard for me to change the import so that it will work on SageMC, so I'll do that.

Trailers for ripped movies

After a few searches, I'm quite shocked. Is there really no way to play a trailer for a movie in my videos? Seems like it would be easy and popular. Select a movie, if a trailer exists, show a menu choice of Play Trailer. Am I missing something? If not, can we get this?

One more question about my videos. I didn't really like the way DVD profiler worked, so I started over. I have my movies in their own folder along with a jpg for the movie poster. This showed up fine, but I also wanted more text info. So, I used the IMDB search and that worked fine.

Except...now is the image that shows up is no longer the one in the folder with the movie, but the one from IMDB. Can I change this? Some of their images are just pics of the dvd case, not the movie poster.

Thanks!

Never heard of that request before. Are you wanting to play a trailer that you have saved on your HD, or to download the trailer off the internet?

If you have the trailer saved, then maybe just set up a sub-folder with the movie and any icons, captions or trailer in it, and then when you browse into it you would see the trailer and movie there. Just play the trailer.

When you do a IMDB save, it saves the IMDB image as movietitle.jpg (movietitle being the name of the matching video file) and will overwite any exising file. If you copy back an alternate image over the IMDB image, you'll get the old pics back. It may take a reload of Sage for the image cache to reload the "correct" image

For the same reason, I do not use the IMDB save feature. Maybe we can get an option whether to save the image from IMDB or not. Personally I'd rather use the images that I took the time to find and place in the folder already.

I have them already on the HD, but downloading missing ones (like the movie trailer plugin) would be good, too. It sounds like, doing it like you suggested, I would need to view the movies by file system, not by genre. That wouldn't be ideal. Seems like the movie detail page could check if a trailer exists and display a Play Trailer button along the left hand side. Optionally, it could offer a download option, but doing that outside of the interface is fine, too.

Well, that's easy enough to fix then. In the future, I'll just need to get IMDB data before getting the poster image. Then, I can overwrite the IMDB one instead of the other way around.

How do I get the Movie options (ie All Upcoming, HD, etc) to stick? Every time I set it and leave that menu, I have to put it back.

Edit: Also, are there any windows message codes reserved specifically for SageMC? I'm particularly interested in a message code for MyTV. I'd like to press a button my my remote control and have a windows message tell SageTV to go directly there.

I could use some help in a spinning icon/hanging problem I have. I was running a single client/server on one pc, but thought it would be helpful to split those roles up. Now I get a spinning icon when navigating in SageMC or pressing the Fast Forward button a few times while playing a video. I never got this issue when running everything on one PC.

The video plays fine without stuttering, but the buttons are unresponsive during the spinning which lasts 10-30 seconds each time. I have increased the java heap on the client and server, installed Java 1.6 on both and increase the buffer registry hack on both. I tried changing the stv to the default and the problem goes away, but I don't want to give up SageMC. Tried wiping out the sage client and reinstalling fresh including the default java 1.42 and no change. When the spinning occurs, my CPU, memory and network utilization are pretty low according to task manager..

Below is a part of my debug log with the hangs included.

Update: I thought it might be my operating system on my client, so I restored an old image of Windows XP MCE that I had used prior to wiping and reinstalling with XP SP2. I had to install the 6.1.9 client to make it connect to my server. I still noticed the lag with SageMC 6.3.2c, but on this old MCE version I had some older versions of SageMC made for Sagetv 5.x. I switched to an older version of SageMC that identifies itself as "6.6" and the spinning issues have virtually disappeared. I'll keep playing with it to see if any spinning shows up, but it seems that something with the newer SageMC and Sagetv client 6.1.9 don't like each other on my setup. I miss the features added in newer versions, but I can live without them for now if this is a fix for me.

Update 2: The older 5.x SageMC started lagging with the spinning icon too. I wiped out my client machine and reinstalled with Windows 2003. Now it runs very nicely with very little spinning. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Update 3: Updated my client hardware and updated OS to Vista to support my 8500GT a little better. Spinning rarely happens now, which I suspect is due to the clean OS/Sage Client install as well as the improved hardware.

I'm still brand new to using SageMC. I'll try to answer your questions as best as I can...

Don't be afraid to poke around. Trust me, everything is there. It's matter of learning where everything is.

Question #1: I've just installed SageMC but where can I find a guide to the program?

Method 1: If youre talking about the TV Guide, Click on MyTV from the main menu, then on new menu, select Guide (left hand side).

Method 2: Use a sageTV compatible remote control and just press the Guide button.

Method 3: I'm not sure if this will work for you or not, but I just use the right arrow on my remote or keyboard when the MyTV item is highlighted under the main menu. You get a submenu which shows Guide and a bunch of other commonly used items.

Question #2:
I'm not sure about this since I haven't tried, but I know you can select options for compressions for TV "series" also known as favorites under the standard STV. Go from MyTV to Schedule. You will see compression options for each show listed there.

Questions #3:
I dont know what you mean by using "other programs". But, I think you can launch external programs via sageMC's integrated dynamic menus options.. just right click on the menu menu and you will see those options.

Focus the corresponding button, and bring up the options menu, where you can set the current setting as default.

Custom1 -> My TV
Custom2 -> Recorded TV
Custom3 -> Movies

(unless you have mapped either of those to different SageMC functionality)

Hi Dirk, Currently, I'm not sure why, but Custom 1 currently toggles the RSS news Ticker. I'm not sure if this is related, but had a very similar problem when trying to use Custom 2 for the SlimplayerMC addon. I've seen others reporting problems with Customx as well.

Yes, I have noticed this as well, it is especially annoying when you have extra long recording times such as when recording sports... which I usually have start 15 minutes early to catch some of the pregame commentary, and end 45 minutes late to catch possible overtime or long games.

Another annoyance with the is when checking the schedule, it only shows the length of the program, not the scheduled recording time. The stock STV properly shows how long it will be recording.
