If it works on the vcr then perhaps you may have a faulty tuner card or faulty drivers for the tuner. What kind of tuner card is it and does it work with the tv software provided to you with the card?

The gray disappeared when I took the screenshot but it was there. I'll take another picture of my monitor with a digical camera tonight to show the gray.
The tunercard is a Sony Gigapocket and it works fine with the SW that came with it. Will post more screenshots later.
