SageMC is just a custom STV, has a different look/feel than the default STV and some different features.

Look here:
SageMC
And scroll down and look at the screen shots. If you still can't tell how it differs from SageTV3 or GermSage...um...well....I can't help you.

Okay - I see now - it's another plugin. Question (perhaps without me reading 50 pages of posts) what are the reasons for choosing SageMC over Sage? Also, I'm assuming it acts like a media center interface but runs on XP.

Thanks again,
Mike

It's an STV, not a plugin. SageMC is just a different UI for Sage. It has a much nicer look and feel than the stock Sage STV, but is missing one key feature that makes it a no go for me, which is it can't sort by original airdate.

It has a few features that the stock STV doesn't. Easiest way to know if you want to use it or not is to try it out.

Yeah Mike, I would also suggest to try it out. I recently switched to this STV, and I really love it. And my wife too ...

Would you need this sorting only on the Recorded TV page ?

I currently have GermSage and there is no way I would switch to SageMC unless it has these features which GermSage has:

1. Ability to run an external program like a media player like Nero Showtime so that I may play my H264 mpeg 4 files.

2. Access to Internet Movie Database.

3. Will the normal Sage extensions work like Nielms multispeed xml add on?

Thanks,
Mike

First two are already there and built in.

Number 3-some of them work. I can't confirm that is one of them. You need to rename the .stvi extension to .xml if you want to see it listed in setup when you import it. I have the Caller ID, Netflix plugins working in SageMC. Deria's Winamp plugin has built-in support in SageMC too.

Just to add: my 'SleepTimer' and "Remember play positions in video lib" plugins will work in SageMC too ...

Hi Mike,

"Sort By Title" will group your recordings by title.

Yes it does but you see in Sage (not Sage MC) I was able to sort by date (most recent first) AND group by Title which is kind of nice. I like seeing the most recent stuff recorded at the top of the list but also grouped by title as well which was available in Sage.

EDITED: Also, I just noticed that it is displaying my media center recordings in the same place as my Sage recordings but those are in mp4 and I'm not sure how to set up SageMC for that. Well, I just got it loaded so I'm going to have to find some time to play around with it.

Thanks,
Mike

Correct, and I miss this functionality too.

I am currently working on a SageMC import which will add some stuff, I might include this in there if it doesnt turn out to be too difficult ...

Yes, I know it's not as useful when viewing first runs because they can be sorted by the date they were recorded.

It's an important feature IMO when recording shows that have been on the air awhile. It's just an inconvience to view the detailed info for 20-30 shows to figure out which one originally aired first. If the feature were added to SageMC I'd definetly have to look into switching back over to it. I quit using it when the feature was added to the default STV.
