Oh well, looks like I'll be purchasing a placeshifting license. It's worth it, works pretty well, and I'm sure Sage will continue to improve it!

You can bank on that. I came on board around v. 1.4 as I recall. Sage has made huge strides since that time; very active developement and pro-user. Sage is like part of the family; at least as familiar and as important as the living-room furniture.

That being said, it does make the purchase of the extender more attractive for those folks who don't need capabilities of the client. If you had an HD extender with a built in DVD player I wouldn't have brought it up. Have you considered a package deal for licenses as an alternative? (1) Server License $79 (1) Client License $30 (1) PlaceShifter/Extender License $30 (1) Client & (1) Placeshifter/Extender License $45 (2) PlaceShifter/Extender Licenses $__ That way you could still collect for the Placeshifter technology and entice some of us who are on the fence to make a move. Maybe others who already bought both, could then be eligible for a free second Placeshifter/Extender license or a discounted second full client license or a pair of SageTV boxer shorts or something. Just an idea. |

If they had an HD extender I would buy it TODAY and replace my Windows MCE + XBOX 360 for watching TV...
Although if MCE gets CableCARD support that could influence the decision back the other direction... heh Jason Bottjen |

At the time of this offer Placeshifting did not exist. If you did not have an MVP there was no reason to convert. As far as $30 goes, it is not that that is a lot it is just now I have a client license that I am not using. I currently have 2 MVP that I bought through Sage (to support them for the great work) but unless I power one down I can not use PS. I want to get rid of the client license and get a Extender/PS license. Shouldn't be that difficult. Even if sage would have made the extender and PS license seperate, I would still be in the same boat, a USELESS client license that I paid for.

I don't believe Sage's TOS allow for that.

Oh, apparently the Placeshifter doesn't support IR plugins:

So Placeshifting licenses are exactly the same as MVP license? I've read that if I have a MVP license, I can also use that for Placeshifting. But if I bought a Placeshifting license, can I use that for the MVP?
I was thinking about getting the Sage Server + one placeshifting license package and then using that license for the MVP. Would that work? |

Never regretted getting license.
It still blows away placeshifter in quality... The Placeshifter and SageClient are two very different applications. You can make a very kickass wireless SageTV extender out of an old laptop with a streamzap remote and a sageclient license. I've got one using a wireless G card flawlessly. Couldn't get my original MediaMVP wireless for the life of me but all my laptops are as solid as any of my wired SageTV configurations. In any event, SageClient leaves many options open for building a quality, low powered extender with spare hardware you may have considered junking.. especially while MediaMVP's are scarce and the new ones will retail for around 150 bux when they come out!
