you have to add the .vob within sage.properties. Then the will show up when you browse the media files using the MVP. Works pretty nice as long as you know what the main vob files are.

If you rip a DVD the correct way with the .ifo files and the structure intact and have the directory where they are at defined in Sage an a Import video directory they'll play just like a DVD. If you want to play vob you need to add the .vob extension in the Sage properties file.

They are ripped into their own folders. I tried redoing one of them into a VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (empty) and Sage only finds the .vob files (now that I added them to the properties files). It won't play them as a DVD from the media browser. Do I have to add each one to the media folders list individually? (A bit of a pain if you have many). And, there's no sound when it plays the vob files (they play fine in nero showtime).

Got it. I needed the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders AND I needed to refresh the media folders. Thanks for the help!

No sound also

I have to same problem. I also have the problem with AVI files.

I have submitted a bug report and have once again reverted back to 4.1.11.

Anyone else tried VOB files on the MVP with 4.1.12 yet? What I get is fine VOB video playback on the MVP but only the 1 to 2 seconds of sound before it goes silent. If I rewind, the sound will play again for 1-2 seconds then go away. It works the same way at any point in the VOB file (rewind and get a couple of seconds of sound).

hmm...maybe I could watch "Groundhog Day" and not notice all the rewinding .

If you need the transcoding for the MVP right now, I suggest reverting back a version and using 4.1.11. They are working on the problem and it will reportedly be corrected in the next release.

I am using 4.1.12 (JRE 1.5.06, P4 3.06HT, 2gigs) and I am playing VOBs. I get sound through-out the file.

I do see some issues with sound stutters, like a hiccup, then the sound gets out of sync with the video. I press "rewind" and the sound gets back in sync.

Also, the timeline usually does not match where the video currently is, however, this is an aesthetic issue to me.

Now that there is an interface between Sage and mencoder for placeshifting, wouldn't it be a simple(ish) matter to compress shows once they are encoded? Perhaps, select compress from the delete screen. Now that you guys know how to talk to the encoder, you could add this and doing that wouldn't screw up the show information in the database. Right now we have to encode by hand and then delete the original and then bring the encoded show back in, being careful about the date and time an all that. Since the encoder is now part of Sage, I think that in place compression should come along real soon.

Hear hear!!!

Better yet - give us a global option in addition, i.e. "compress all shows for place shifting (enable;disable)"

That's one feature (one of the few) I "miss" from my days of using BTV.

Request - reset timeshifting eval period

Narflex,

As you can see here I have tried placeshifting over a month ago and was a bit disappointed... since there, there have been several beta releases and I am sure with them, progress in quality/stability. However - my 7 days are up... there's no way to evaluate placeshifting... any way to reset the 7 days with the next (or each) beta version? I'm sure I am not the only one with this 'problem'..?

I've got a client license, but as we all know it's no good for placeshifting

Thx for an excellent product.

Arielshu

So should I install the beta or wait? I'm currently running 4.1 (whatever the official release was). I would REALLY like to start playing with the Placeshifting feature... I have never used any of the betas in the past...always letting you fine people work the bugs out.

My setup is pretty basic. I have a dedicated server with two PVR-250 tuners. It has a dual-zone USB-UIRT blasting the channel changes. I have 2 full HTPC clients. I control them with Girder/USB-UIRT. I also have one MVP client, running the Sage Extender (I assume I can use my extender license for the placshifting as long as my extender is turned off?). I don't have ANY customizations, no STV's, no add-ons. Just pretty much out of the box Sage.

I rely on Sage as my primary method of watching TV so I need it to work.

Is the .12 beta at the point where I can install it and pretty much forget about it? Or am I looking at having to spend a lot of time playing with it/sacrificing functionality if I load it up?

Thanks for any advice!

You may want to wait for the next round ... Narflex mentioned it's supposed to squash some bugs (must be some fairly large ones) so you may want to wait till we get a week or so with .13 or you could wait for the one after that, etc

I think the main features in latest beta (.12) are more stable than the released version. I have been stutter free ever since I installed it. Before I would get freezes for a minute or so every so often.

Placeshifter is getting better with each beta but I don't think it is there yet. With the latest beta I get video. Before I just got a black screen. But my 1.8 GHz Pentium runs at 100%. I have to run with Placeshifter disabled to get the stability I want.

Just remember that some beta releases will take several steps forward but also a step backwards. That backwards step will kill the reliability.

I was deleteing a show after watching and I got the "SageTV has encountered an error and must be closed."

It happened at 10:04pm. Attached is an excerpt from the log at that time (also have filed a bug report).

It's the obvious answer (sorry!) but if stability is the most important thing for you then you should avoid any beta, as it's inherently risky.

However, this one has been good for me, and so long as you take a full backup of your SageTV folder you should be able to back it out.

All depends on your attitude!

That would be a really wonderful feature to see added.

vob files on MVP??

I ripped a movie.. there are both folders now in a directory that sage sees.. when I open that folder I get a 'watch now' option.. when I select it I get..

"There was an error playing folder/video_ts-"folder/video_ts":
Error(-19): THere is no mediaplayer that can playback the selected file.

This is using my MVP..
I have added the ,.vob to the sage.properties.. the video_ts folder is complete with the .vob and the .ifo and .bup files...

Any suggestions?

It's trying to play the .ifo file and the MVP can't. You have to have it play the .vob file. On the MVP, unless you rip it as 1 big .vob file you'll need to pick or queue up each .vob file. You will need to "Browse to the Media file" form the original Sage3 stv menu.

The Sage crash happened again.

My wife was watching a show, finished it, deleted it then started to watch another show for a few seconds then decided she had seen that one. She then stopped and deleted the show.

She said after a couple of cursor movements on the menu she got the "SageTV has encountered an error and must be closed."

Below is the log file.... *bug report also filed"

The crash happened around 19:48 hrs.

I see many of the same errors as before in the log.

Any idea what is going on? This only started a few days ago.

Thanks,

Stacy
