That's true. But in a situation like that, I'd rather just put in a jack at each end. It would be quite a bummer to go to all that trouble then relocate a computer and find your cable is 3 feet too short! If you install jacks, you can just swap out the patch cord at the end.
Not that I've ever run a wire to a location and then decided I'd like the computer in the other corner of the room... ![]() Eric

It appears I spoke too soon. I had the same problem again today. This time I even had to completely restart my computer before the connection would work properly again.
Interestingly enough, I tried ping again when things were a little messed up, and it worked. Also, when plugged into my normal router, I was able to release-renew my IP address when I was having problems, and I tried using a different router with similar results. This suggests that DHCP working. To some extent, since both DHCP and PING were working, this seems to support my hypothesis that its a software problem with my TCP-IP stack. I would imagine if it was a hardware issue everything would be broken, not just TCP connections. Any thoughts? |

lol, I hate making cables ... ever since I reterm'd about 40 db25 serial cables (at least they weren't sync serial)
![]() I'm so lazy, I use a Lucent 110 patch panel and 110 punch down keystone jacks ![]() ![]() ![]() |
