I still continue to see every so often not the crash but that Sage has minimized itself to the task bar. Sometimes it will come back out of it and sometimes it will crash. I have seen this on my server running it as a client and I actually have seen this the other night on my PC client. Left it up on the Main menu and the next morning it was minimized on the task bar.

Just had crash while ffwding. I'm running 4.1.12, no service, nothing but a plain vanilla install. Nothing of interest in my logs.

I've had it a few times with 12, again nothing of note in the logs other than normal. For the time being im taking it on my machine running a bit hot at the time. I just got a new case for it and we'll see what happens in the next week since typically it did it after 3-4 days of uptime.

Curious for those experiencing Sage just dropping out to the desktop...what imports if any are you all using?

I'm using the comskip import. The problem continues, although more infrequently, in 4.1.12. Today I think I'll update to RC4.1.14 and cross my fingers.

Did you use any other imports at any time? Basically I'm curious what files are in your ...SageTV\SageTV\JARs folder.

Twice I had Sage just disappear with 4.1.10, and it wrote a crash log. Sage tell me it's Java that crashed, and it could be a bad hdd, ram or java install. I'm going to do a full java reinstall today and check disks and ram...
Is this still happening to people as I have it using Sage 4.1.3 (in service and client mode)?. It has only happened when I've been watching something and just drops straight to the desktop. The client can be restarted without issue - no need to reboot.

It started when I upgraded from Java 1.4.2 to 1.5.6 as part of trying to eradicate a period stutter problem that I had.

Cheers
Eric

Are others experiencing this also using Nvidia Purevideo as their video decoder?
I'm also running java 1.5.x but I've always been.

NOW Sage Version 5.02 Crashes (4.1.10 Crashes)

The following is ny response to SAGE Support

To Sage Support:
Ok this is a follow up to the original problem I was having on version 4.x. Sage disappearing Act. No matter what I did running version 4.x I could not get rid of this problem.

I completely removed version 4.x, Deleted all registry entries and installed 5.x, turned off JAVA updated (Sage running on the SAGE supplied JAVA) and Sage will run for several hours, not sure how long because there seems to not be a good error logging in Sage.

I have turned on Logging and the Log entry times seem to be messed up. Date and time in the second log created by Sage shows to be earlier than the first???? IS THIS A LOGIC PROBLEM???? Logs attached: Log 0: 5/4/2006 0924
Log 1: 5/4/2006 0814
Log 2: 5/4/2006 0808

Also does sage use the SageClient.Properties or Sage.properties for a standalone install?

I have basically come to the conclusion that SAGE is the issue! I know I am not the only one with this problem as I have seen posts on the Sage Community Site also. You pay good money for a product and then customer support is very poor and you have to rely on on users to help you fix a problem that should have been fixed by the software developer.

sagetv_0 is always the most recent log, 1 next oldest, 2 next oldest.

sage.properties is used by the UI if you are running standalone sagetv, sageclient.properties is used by the UI if you are running with the service.

No idea I'm afraid. Sage say it's Java?

That's interesting, Sage never mentioned JAVA issues, there response was to do a clean reinstall. I know there are other users with the same problem but Sage does not seem to come to the plate and offer a solution.

MSI KM3MV, AMD Athlon 1600, 512Mb DDR333, eVGA GeForce FX5200 w/SVID, USB-UIRT, WinXP Pro SP2, (2)-PVR-350, (1)-MAXTOR 80Gb System Disk, (2)-WD160Gb (Sage Storage)

Sage said Java, check java install, memory and hdd. Find and use memtest86 to check your RAM, chkdsk your HDDs. Won't help, I'm sure...

Just an update. I did update to 4.1.14 and it happened a couple of times. Since then I've upgraded to 5.02 and no issues yet (fingers crossed). I am also using the Nvidia Purevideo decoder (see sig. for version). I occasionally get a "black screen of death" that I think is a video driver issue but that's another topic.

[Edit] Figures as soon as I say all is well it crashes. I'll get the logs together tonight and send in a bug report.

Also -- the log shows that a customized STV is being used. See what happens if the default STV is used instead, without any customizations.

Are there any java crash logs in the SageTV directory? (A file named like hs_err_pid####.log) The SageTV log just looks like it received a command to exit... is there some utility running that sent a Windows "close" command to the SageTV app instead of the app it was supposed to send it to?

I don't know that those things are what is causing it; just trying to narrow it down.
