MVP won't play 16x9
If I have a show recored in 16x9 format it plays back fineon the MVP. I have a couple of the kids movies I copied to sage in vob format. I wanted them to be able to play on the mvp so I transcoded them using the method I learned here. They play fine in 16x9 format one the computer but on the MVP they are 4x3. The strange thing is that it will play in 16x9 format using the MVP software just not the Sage MVP software. Any ideas or suggustions?

From the extender, goto setup (not sure the submenu) and find the 'aspect ratio' option. Set it to 'source.'
Not sure if this will work, but I had to do that with mine. I have found lately that the options for the SageTV differ from the MVP Client, where I had to change the STV on each separately (which is really, really cool if you want to have different look/feel for each client). |

I did try that before, and I tried it again this moring. I installed an STV that that had ratio settings I tried all the settings I even tried using the over scan down to 80 percent and no luck. The sage bin file just doesn't seem to detecct that it is 16x9 when you convert a vob 16x9 to a mpeg. As I said it is is not sage directly because it does detect that it is 16x9 on the computer just not on the MVP.

Sounds decoder related... I know if I try to use anything besides the PV decoders with VMR I cant even change the aspect ratio from 4:3.

Well I went back last night and played around with the display options. To get the MVP to display 16x9 mpegs I had to go to settings on the MVP (thier software) and turn 16x9 on then on my Sony I had to turn on 16x9 auto detect did not detect the 16x9. Is there any chance that the MVP interface will get an option to set 4x3, 16x9, or source. The MVP software has that option so I would assume that Sage could also add it. I love the MVP but would love to have this option. Right now I have to turn off the Sage server and run the MVP software it would be nice to do it all with the Sage interface.

Can I give this a bump? I'm in the UK, and my MVP insists on kicking out only 4:3. Including the sage interface.

I'm assuming you're trying to view 16x9 anamorphic enhanced mpegs on 4x3 TVs.
Right? TIM |

I think interface depends on the AR settings from setup. But if you record your programs via (say) a Hauppauge card from a STB, they are all marked 4:3 on the video whether they are or not. For the MVP to recognise the video properly, you need to record a digital stream...or 4:3 letterboxed.

I too think there is an issue with 16:9. I'm using a European MVP fitted with a SCART connector and on two different 16:9 TVs (JVC and Samsung) I get black borders top and bottom. The video was recorded directly from a DVB-S card inside the server. If I play it back on the MVP using Hauppauge's own software it fills the screen correctly; using Sage I get the results detailed above.

I'm located in Belgium, Europe, and had also aspect ratio issues using the MVP (scart version). I'm running SageMC16x9.
I have set the MVP on using the source for aspect ratio, and for those files which 'trouble' me, I use the aspect ratio add-on. Have you tried that one, easy to use and did the trick for me. You can find that thread here Hope it helps. Jan

Thanks ever so much Jan. The solution (for me at least) was in that thread, specifically this one http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...0&postcount=57. It's a bit embarrassing really, I've been using SageMC so much I forget that there are options that can still only be set in the default STV. Thanks again.
