I thought not closing the media files might have been done on purpose to fix the old PVR350 EOF issue. Don't even know if that is still an issue, never really followed it as I don't have a 350.
The biggest pain for me with not closing the media file was that using Left to go back through the Sage menus I would always end up back in the media player at the show that had just finished. I know there are other ways to navigate around the menus but left to go back up the Sage menu tree is something everyone in our family can understand. It's a case of either the Gumpism "Stupid is, as stupid does" or a W/FUF (Wife/Family Useability Feature).
The other problem was that occasionally when trying to play another meda file I would end up back at the end the the last file I had played. I know other people get around this by using the multi-function stop import.
I think it would make sense for the extra couple of changes to be added to your import as the function you are providing is overriding the reason Andy has mentioned for not closing the media file. If there were any other compelling reasons for not closing the media files I'm sure you would have come across them in SageMC, as you are closing the files there.
