Dirk, do you know if its possible to associate the sleep timer with custom 3 or Custom 5? Ive been looking all around studio trying to make sense out of it based on the old instructions you gave me. Maybe you would consider to add an option either the detailed settings or the properties file to associate it with Custom 3, Custom 5, etc.. .just like the weather map options.
I really appreciate your time, Michael

Hi Dirk,
At this moment I am using ShutDownOne Pro from DimaWare to put the SageTV PC into standby at a fixed moment each day. This software has a build in scheduler, but it can also be used from the command line. I have tried to use your plugin for putting the pc into standby, but when doing this I noticed the SageTV will go to sleep even if I put in a cmd line entry to make use of ShutDownOne Pro. I would like to leave SageTV in full screen mode and push to pc into standby with a cmd entry for ShutDownOne Pro. Is it possble to use this plugin for this? It would be really nice because I like to make use of the popup screen which you use to acknowledge the standby trigger. |

Hi Dirk, I know you probably have been ridiculous busy. But, I'm really hoping you might have about 15 minutes to see how how to link the custom timer to Custom 3 or Custom 5 so remote controls can automatically access the sleep timer. Also, maybe you wouldnt mind updating the sleep timer so it doesnt include the incorrect "refresh" widget entries.
I swear, I wouldnt bug you about this if I havent already spent (more time than I'm willing to admit) to make this work myself. Sincerely, -Michael Quote:

Just to further elaborate. Currently, the only option I have is to associate a "Custom 3, 5" shortcut in dynamic menus to the sleep timer menu. These shortcuts are ignored in all menus except for dynamic menus.

I have tried and tried and tried
This just doesnt work anymore. SearchMenuTheme doesnt have Custom3 listed anymore (with latest SageMC STV). If you could please spare just a couple of minutes to tell me where the new location is to change it. All I want is to press one of the unused Custom buttons to trigger the Sleeptimer.

you don't need to add this to SearchMenuTheme. Just add it to MenuProgramTheme (see attached pic, or replace an existing custom binding), and you should be able to call the sleep timer from almost all places... Dirk |

Thank you Dirk! That worked like a charm!
I just made a custom SageMC_169.xml which has the sleep timer imported in it already with two fixes: 1) BeforeMenuLoad "Refresh()" entries removed (Sleeptimer 1.3 bugfix) 2) Sleeptimer connected to "Custom2" Thanks again, Michael

Shutdown with Sleep Timer
I set up the sleep timer plugin v1.3 with Sage v6.4.8.184 and running the newest SageMC v6.3.8.
I’m trying to associate the sleep timer with command line execution to shutdown my server. I modified my sage.properties file to include the following: plugins/df/SleepTimer/cmd=C\:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\shutdown.exe plugins/df/SleepTimer/args=-s However, this does not work. What am I doing wrong? How do I get the sleep timer to shutdown the PC too? Thanks, Bill |

I have the sleep timer working with 6.5.3 default STV but when I edit the clients property file it does not seem to be making the changes.
For example: plugins/df/sleeptimer/sleep_times=15,30,60,90 I changed it to to: plugins/df/sleeptimer/sleep_times=20,35,65,95 Restarted SageTV and the client and the menu options are still 15,30,60,90. The clients property file remained at 20,35,65,95. Also the "plugins/df/sleeptimer/cmd" property is not firing. Any ideas?? Thanks --- Rich

My first question would be are you sure you are modifying the correct .properties fie?
You mention SageTV and the client. Are you running SageTV as a service? is the client running on the server, or on a separate computer. YOu also have MVPs listed in your sig. Based on that, there could be many different .properties files in use, and you may not be modifying the correct sleep_times line. The fact that it is showing the old times, and the cmd line isn't working points to another. .properties file out there that has the old times, and a blank cmd line.

And if you're on Vista the sageclient.properties will be found in the Virtual Store.

Partial Fix
Here is what I was doing..
- Power down the extender - HD100 in this case - Close SageTV (running as an app. -not as a service) - Changed the sleep_times in the extenders properties file. The file in the clients folder named the extender's MAC_ address.propperties - Start SageTV - Power on the extender It did not work. The sleep times remained the defaults. After reloading Sage and the STVi numerous times I still could not get it to change the default sleep times. About to give up, I looked in the SAGE.properties file. There ,to my surprise, I found the line "plugins/df/sleeptimer/sleep_times=15,30,60,90. I had not imported the STVI into the Sage server. I changed the entries in the SAGE.properties file to .....=20,35,65,95. Now it works on the extender. Is this a global setting? It really does not make any difference in my case as I will only be using the sleep timer on one extender. Of couse I'm still confused. I'm trying to get the "cmd" option to work. It does not seem to be calling the external program. I'll keep working on it. 1. Why is the syntax for the directory tree wierd? Why all the slashes (\\)? Example: c\:\\program files\\whatever\\xxx.exe Thanks again - Rich

OK, extenders are wierd in that they do run through the server, so some settings may be controlled through the server.
Now, cmds might be wierd as well since the extenders do not actually run any programing, but sorta pull the UI from the server. I don't know more than that.

Working Ok Now
Got the sleep timer working to the wife's satisfaction. An HD100 extender is driving the LCD TV and it is controlled by a Harmony 550. Here is the process and how I got it to work.
- Set TV sleep to 60 minutes (button on Harmony). - Set SageTV sleep to 65 minutes. I found the SleepTimer settings for setting the sleep times in the Sage.properties file...not the extender property file. - Using the SleepTimer's "cmd" and "cmd_args" options in the extender's property file I triggered an app to put the extender in standby 10 seconds after Sage went to sleep. I originally attempted to use shadeblue's excellent "sageextctrl.exe" as the app with the parameters "192.168.1.40 off". It should have placed my extender (using the stated static ip) in standby but for some reason it would not run from the SleepTimer's "cmd" option. It would run from the command line or using Windows "Run" option. My only thought was it appears "sageextctrl.exe" is a console app and perhaps SleepTime's "cmd" option would not launch a console app??? I wrote a simple app that takes three parametes, delay time, path to and app to launch, and app to launch parameters. I used 10 seconds delay, sageextctrl.exe as the app, "192.168.1.40 off" (my extender ip + off) as the parameters. I ran my app from SleepTimer's "cmd" option and put my app's parameters in Sleeptimer's "cmd_args" option. In essence I'm calling an app from an app but as I said I could not get sageextctrl.exe to launch directly from SleepTimer. My app opens a small window on the SageTV server PC and counts down the seconds until it launches the second app then closes itself. - I programmed a "Wake Up" button on the Harmony remote. It powers the TV on and takes the extender out of standby. It also puts the Harmony back in sync. It thinks everything is on and they are. One last point - Why not just let the SleepTimer put Sage in sleep mode and keep the extender on? There are three options in Sage for sleep. Two (slide show enabled) require some network traffic, although it may be minimal, using a slide show or the SageTV logo. The third (slide show disabled) has no network traffic. Being anal that's what I wanted. Unfortunatly SleepTimer will not trigger more than once for the third option without cycling the extender in and out of standby Alot of work but the wife is happy and I kept busy for a few hours (retired for 6 years). Good thing I don't have a life or I would'nt have time for this! Rich.
