Nope... I wish it were that simple... when I do a ctl+alt+del all I see is that Sage has taken up well over 90% of my cpu and has eaten up over 250 megs or ram.

What version are you running? If you haven't tried the latest beta (v4.1.9), give that a try. I think someone mentioned at least one recent change that would limit periodic cpu usage, but I believe there may have been others a little earlier. Depending on what version you are running now, there may have been a few such improvements.

well i upgraded to the latest beta and i got rid of some other extra software but the stuttering hasn't gotten any better yet. anybody else have any ideas about what to do here about the intermittent cpu usage over 90% problem? thanks...
