Using the SVideo connection, the tuner isn't used on a tv - same goes for a PC Tuner card.

Basically - you're going to want to use Svideo so this is all moot. The channel number on the PVR Card isn't going to matter at all.
I think it is all moot anyway because even if I use the tuner, everything is going into the file server and streamed into another room to a Sage TV client where the TV is located. So, there is no tuner needed at all at the TV set since all I need is a graphics card in the computer and a network card.

By the way - I was still wondering how you like the quality of DTV with Sage?

Thanks again,
Mike

Well, I was actually just using the TV's tuner as an example...

I recently purchased an MVP and the combination of SageTV with the Media MVP is just as good as the DirecTivo I cancelled. I'm very very happy with the quality.

12.5"W x 10"D x 2"H

You're lucky - Tape measure sitting right behind me and D10 right to the side!

Thanks - now all I have to do is make a bid on ebay to get some boxes (new or used I guess). May take days and I want it now. How much do you think it will take to win the bid?

Thanks,
Mike

I'm assuming the phone jack in the back of the D11 just won't work.

Thanks again,
Mike

Well i'm sure that it will work, for making phone calls to DTV

The D10 has a phone jack plus the home control (serial) jack. The phone jack is only used to call DTV so they can bill you for PPV stuff.

D11's don't have a serial port, it's been replaced by a USB port. Allegedly, a USB-serial adapter can be used.

Ahhh, ya must have skipped to the last couple of posts. All DirecTV recievers have RJ11 phone jacks, it's the only way they can charge you for PPV stuff when you order it using the remote. That's what I was saying could be used for making calls...

Has anyone tested the USB port with a USB serial adapter? Maybe I don't need to downgrade to a D10-100 box if the D11 will work with a USB serial adapter. I wonder if if will work if there is anything I need to configure with the D11 STB.

Thanks,
Mike

I just purchased a D11 today, so i'll be playing with / testing it by next week hopefully. I really have no use for it other then my curiosity.

I'm actually starting to be more doubtful of it working after seeing that the MythTV user that got it to work had to modify the perl script that they use with Myth - meaning that it may not work with the standard dtv dll included with sage. If it doesn't i'll be compiling that perl script and trying it with exetunerplugin.

If it doesn't work with Sage out of the box, make sure you file a bug report on it so they can work on a patch.

When you run through SageTV Configure Tuner Wizard and chose external STB using Analog coaxial output from the STB to the PC tuner card, it will ask you for a locked channel, either 3 or 4, usually its 3.

You should get your serial cables made so they're ready to go right when you get the boxes. Also One thing to keep in mind is that your pc probably only has 1 or 2 serial ports, so you may need to look into additional ports either by PCI or USB. I've heard that USB doesn't work perfectly for controlling DTV boxes so you may want to go the PCI route as I did. I actually just got 3 SIIG 2 port (upgradable to 4) pci serial cards on ebay dirt cheap so that may be the way to go. I actually only needed 1 but I got mad at someone that was trying to outbid me so I just bought them all so they couldn't get any!
