Well at lunch I figured out the anomally last night with the recording. it appears that since I am not able to use the correct line up yet it is not always picking the correct subchannel. Today at lunch I tuned to abc and the audio was right, but the video was of the roof of there tower. As I recall from when I had the antenna connected to my TV sub channel 2 has this feed and all the sub channels have the main channel audio.

I am going to send an email to Sage Support because even with CES it seems like they would have responded by now. I used the form on the website and maybe that didn't work. Hope they can help me figure this out quickly. I really like the tuner and I am thinking about ordering a 2nd one.

Very Odd. I emailed Support directly instead of using the web form and they replied today saying they never received my web requests from last week. I am hoping support will have some suggests on the Channel Line up issues and also hopefully on the weird favorites issue.

Hello John,

Have you resolved this? If so was it on your own or with the help of sage support?

Just hoping for an update. Thanks in advance.

Jesse,

Short answer is the tuner works with SageTV.

Long answer is I still can not get the list of OTA channels to pick my actual line up. I have to send logs to support so they can try and diagnose the problem with gettig OTA Channel Line ups.

So far I have recorded around 15 shows in HD with SageTV and only 2 have had problems. I think once the channel line up issue is resolved I will be able to do everyting and at that point will likely order the 2nd VBOX USB tuner.

Last night I took home a better router from work. I was having issues with my ancient linksys locking up. Well I decided what the heck I will try getting the OTA lineup again. Almost immediately it came back with list. I configured the line up and I now have all 7 HD Channesl ( ABC, NBC, CBS, WB, FOX, UPN, PBS and some of the sub channels). I will have to see if ABC records correctly this sunday. That is the only issue I really have left. Every sunday when it goes to record Desperate House Wifes for some reason I get a black screen and the audio. This week I caught it and changed the channel and switched back and it worked. I may manually add the missing sub channels to the line up. Depending on how things go I will probably order the 2nd VBOX USB 2 HD Tuner.

Well it looks like I had the same problem again. It is odd that it appears to only happen with ABC. Last night Lost got recorded on sub channel 3 instead of 1. I am going to have to submit a bug report because this seems wrong. I think it is a SageTV issue that they are not always specifying which Sub channel to tune.

I am going to manually add the sub channels and see if I can tune them all ok.

Hello John,

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear you are almost there. I am hoping to finally get my antenna up this weekend. It would be nice to get some HD on my new HDTV.

Please keep us posted on any new developments. I will be sure and post here with the results of my setup.

Thanks again,

Jesse

I am glad I can help.

I submitted another request to support, but I also added all the sub channels manually to my lineup and I am able to tune them all wihtout a problem. So far I have to say the tuner is better than is in my TV Set. I also see there is a new beta for SageTV that looks like it addresses some issues with HD. I will probably not get a chance to try this until the weekend.

Jesse,

I Hpe you are having better luck than I am. I installed the latest beta and my tuning problem has not gone away. I at least know how to reproduce it at will and have sent log files to support. I just have to remember to tune to another channel other than PBS before any recording on ABC is going to happen. As long as I tune to any other channel first it does not seem to happen, but If I tune to any sub channel and then tune to ABC it tunes sub channel 3 on ABC...a loving picture of the tower.

But I did order another one of these tuners. I have confidence that Frey will fix the software problem...I am 99% certain it is a bug with their software.

Hi John,

Sorry to hear of your ongoing problems. I unpacked my new OTA antenna on Sunday with hopes of getting it installed. I should have known from the condition of the box....boom broken in half. I just picked up a Channel Master 4228 today. Most of the install work is done (just have to fit the antenna to the pole and connect some coax), so with any luck I will be firing the whole thing up tonight or tomorrow night. Based on your experiences I am not optimistic. WAF will suffer a major blow if this does not work pretty soon. If DTV offered an MPEG4 DVR today I would grab one. Dont want the wife to think that new plasma was not a good idea......

I will let you know how it goes.

Thanks again,
Jesse

I hope you have better luck than I did.

I did actually receive my 2nd Tuner and I am hoping to get it installed tonight once I go and get a splitter and some short Coax cables. So far I have been very happy with the results other than tuning HD. It is odd that it only happens when recording ABC HD.

Just an update. I installed the 2nd VBOX USB tuner with no problems. It went really smoothly in fact and I tested it out several times. Everything got recorded correctly on both tuners.

Recorded 2 Episodes of Scrubs on NBC, and then Simultaneously Love Monkey on CBS and Boston Legal on ABC.

So far 2 tuners looks managable...but maybe a 3rd is called for...7 Total Tuners is just not enough....(Evil cackle).

Not sure if anyone is still checking this thread, but SageTV Support sent me some new dlls for addressing my issue with ABC some times recording sub channel 3. I am optimistic. I will be testing it this weekend.

Yes tech support can help, but honestly he should not have to call them. He did his part, he bought the software and a supported card, installed them on a computer that meets SageTV specs so it should work no excuses.
FYI: 'IRregardles' isn't a word. Regardless is.

Definition of irregardless

Sort of like flammable vs. inflammable.

Merriam Webster has this to say... "usage Irregardless originated in dialectal American speech in the early 20th century. Its fairly widespread use in speech called it to the attention of usage commentators as early as 1927. The most frequently repeated remark about it is that "there is no such word." There is such a word, however. It is still used primarily in speech, although it can be found from time to time in edited prose. Its reputation has not risen over the years, and it is still a long way from general acceptance. Use regardless instead."

I'm not trying to make a fuss here, just thought someone should mention that word is not one regarded as that of an educated vocabulary.

I know what you were trying to convey. It is not that irregardless is not a word, it's that regardless is a "better" word to use.

I just had to jump on the fact that during a grammar lession, you made a spelling mistake. On forums I frequent, an error like that can't be allowed to go unmentioned.
