uses about 23% CPU on my 3.4g P4.... but that's no worry.... I rarely find more than 2 things on the tube at the same time worth watching...

for me, the quality is the issue...

Cool, but how are you recording directly into DIVX?

Hey Korben,

I found what you said to be informative but I really do not see the point of recording in Divx to a high bitrate? If it's going to be close to the size of a medium bitrate mpeg-2 file, then why not just use mpeg-2 and keep the compatibility of dvd video?
I think of Divx/Xvid as being an archive format. You have been using Nero Digital I believe, so you know the size to quality ratio difference I'm talking about.

That's a lot of power to just capture video. I regularly capture 4 shows at a time. I'd hate to know I was trying to do that with software encoding.

No real answers I guess. You'd think a DIVX encode wouldn't be so hard.

Nobody (save Plextor) makes hardware DivX encoders.

Yah, I never wanted a hardware one. I was asking about a software one that will do it on the fly as it's being recorded which would be a far shot better than transcoding at a later time. I'm convinced the encoders these days are mature enough to produce great image quality with a single pass.

I already have a PVR 500 MCE and thats my input card. I'm most interested in your mention of single pass DIVX encoding producing good files and under what settings so I can see for myself if I can get this setup.

Gah. I hate being confused with this stuff.
i was looking over that site you refered to: I found this site:
http://www.pluggedin.tv/sweetspot/features/index.html

It talks about component in and it said "What about that amazing high score you just achieved on your games console - why not save the replay to a movie so you can re-live the achievement any time you want. "

Seems to be refering to component HD recording. Is that what you do with this card? Can you record HD component unencrypted with this?

Sounds like a great idea to record HD from set top boxes!

It says it works with: PAL B, G, D, H, I and N, combination PAL N, PAL M, NTSC M, NTSC-Japan, NTSC 4.43 and SECAM
480i, 576i

Is the usa ntsc 4.43? or?

Aynone else have/ know about this card?

US is NTSC_M... the card only records component at 480i, but the great feature is that with a properly set up STB, my recordings of widescreen movies on HBOHD, HDNET, etc., are anamorphic... i.e. full 720x480 with no black bars....

Sounds pretty cool! What combination of cards do you have?
