Thanks very much. I had tried AppToService from Basta. I'll give the others (including Microsoft's) a try as well...

Thanks insomniac.
I was able to get SageTV started as a service using srvany. I have only had succes running under the local system though. If i try to run it under one of my admin accounts the service starts, but I don't see SageTV start like I do with local system. However when I look in Task Manager there is SageTV.exe running. But I'm unable to access it for any kind of control. This sounds alot like what happened to the previous poster. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or is this all that I can acomplish with srvany? Now that I've had some succes with srvany I'm willing to give firedaemon a try again. Would firedaemon give my the option to use my admin account and still be able to control Sage?

I believe firedaemon will give you the option to "interact with user" but you must use the account which you logon with as i stated earlier
I do not believe the system account will allow for that option I. Quote:

No new posts on this, but i'll put my 2 cents in:
I did get Sage to run as a service using Fire Daemon. Make sure that the option to "interact with desktop" is enabled. Located: Settings->Logon in the Fire Daemon App. Additionally, the only way to wake up sage from sleep with the remote is by using Narflex's "WakeupSage.exe". Do a search of the boards and you will find it. I am using SageTV v2 beta 12 Girder 3.29 Hauppage 250 w/remote |

Just to reinforce that it can be done...Ive had sage as a service for moons. I just recently posted more instructions and a registry export for examples.
http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...corder+service Justme - I know you were looking into this a while back, and if you still have the capability to re-try, take a look at that export. That will do the trick for you. I.

Thanks insomniac,
I actually forgot all about this thread. I am now able to run SageTV as a service using a zip file that contains srvany and instsrv and a .wri file. It was posted as an attachment(or a link to it on a personal website) long ago in a now lost(to me) thread. But I can confirm that it is possible. EDIT:In rereading this thread from the begining I discovered the same three files available on a site posted by insomniac. So I can only conclude I got them from him and zipped htem myself for storage. Or someone else posted a zipped package of insomniac suggested files. My apologies for not letting everyone know of my success, earlier. I can't say exactly what was going on before, but the same steps work for me now. I guess I was just less proficient at it, the first time, I tried to do this. Huge thanks to insomniac for all his help. /justme Last edited by justme; 05-31-2004 at 06:46 PM. |

Is it safe to assume that in order to run Sage as a service, you have to solve the focus problem when using the Hauppauge remote?

I can't personally say as I use a USB-UIRT. However if you use the Hauppauge remote hardware, look at Opus4's posts in the SageTV FAQ. He's come up with many great ways around issues like this.
