OK...onto something here. Concerning the -2, 0x80004005 error, I was running MCE 2005 5.1.2700.2180 (pre-rollup 1?).
Decided to update MCE last night to 5.1.2710.2732 (rollup 2)...and guess what...Sagetv will not work ....get the dreaded -2, 0x80004005 error..can't clear it. Double checked that MCE services are killed.... Will need to reload from original disks...but hope somebody else with Fusion 5 Lite weighs in with MCE Rollup 2 installed WITHOUT this problem. FusionHDTV Software does work fine though. |

I just reinstalled MCE, disabled the MCE services, then ran Sage. Everything worked, with no error. Rollup 2 hasn't been installed yet. We'll see if it breaks, when rollup 2 goes on.

I'll be shocked if we are the only ones who have tried to use a Fusion 5 Lite in an "MCE Latest update" computer with SageTV.....is there a service in there that we are not killing? HELP!!!!

I'm very tempted to try breaking my Sage install straight away, since I've just minimally configured it.

Funny you should mention this. When I was successfully running Sagetv w/Fusion5Lite under MCE pre-rollup1, I had never gone through the Media Center installation wizard. Just prior to making the MCE update, I had to start MCE to find the version number (I understand this is only place to view which version you have).
When I saw how out-of-date my brand new Windows MCE disks were, I updated MCE2005, re-ran Media Center to find version number, and could NOT get Sagetv to work. ...and I wondered at the time...."was it the Media center configuration, or the MCE2005 update?" So to your question......what test should you consider?......I am delighted that you are willing to play and break your installation. Configuring Media Center is a two minute job........updating MCE2005 is an hour long job if you are anal about removng/reinstalling drivers (and the Fusion). So the quick test is also the best test (configure Media Center)...because if it is just a matter of never running Media Center on a new rollup2 install......I can live with that indefinitely. (i.e. I hope this is the problem) However, if SageTV flat out won't work w/Fusion5lite and MCE2005 Latest software...then this is a serious long term problem that may drive major course correction today. |

I only had a few minutes to fiddle with the HTPC today, so I didn't have time to wait for your reply. The good news is, I managed to break it again, on the first try. (Is that really good news?) The bad news is, it's MCE rollup 2 that did it. I did NOT configure the MCE stuff, left the MCE services disabled, and installed rollup 2. The fusion promptly stopped working in Sage. Before installing R2, I took a screen shot of task manager showing running processes. After installing R2, I compared the list with the old one. The REALLY bad news is that the lists are identical, so it's not that we're missing some processes involved in MCE.

I decided to be really daring, and I used Windows system restore to remove rollup 2. After the restore, the fusion card immediately began working in Sage again.

Thanks, Cord, for saving me tons of work!!!!
So, the questions I have are: 1. Has anybody been successful in running Sagetv4.0, with MCE2005Rollup2, and a single Fusion 5 Lite (3.11 version drivers)? Doubt it. 2. It looks like this is a SageTV problem specific to the Fusion Card in MCE2005Rollup2 (given that Fusion's software works fine under Rollup2). Will there be any hope that Sage will look into this and fix it....or it least isolate it to a non-compliant BDA driver from Fusion?? 3. Is there any other HDTV Tuner card that works with Sagetv under MCE2005Rollup2? Please....somebody respond with a card that DOES work under Rollup2. 4. Need at least two cards that will work together....so need Multi-Tuner support. I've got 4 of these Fusion5Lites that I may need to unload, or may need to checkout Beyondtv to see if same issue exists. |

Do other DirectShow based apps work with the Fusion card after installing MCE Rollup 2?
Since Rollup 2 breaks the SageTV 4 support, then it's likely a file/setting that Microsoft is changing which is the problem. This may be specific to the way SageTV uses the card, or it could be generic for all DirectShow usage (except for MCE of course). Were there any notes for Rollup2 that indicated what files it changed? Or could you did a diff between when you have/don't have that patch installed?

I hope dcardellini can answer your question, because I've "unrolled" rollup2 and SageTV is working again. If he can't help, I'll repeat the install and test it out. Any suggestions on what other directshow apps will attempt to show video from the Fusion card? I can testify that it works in the MCE app, but that and SageTV are the only two apps I play with.

Does this card have a hardware encoder for regular standard defintiion tv as well or does it rely on software for that?

Cord and Narflex: Thanks for help on this...I did a fresh install of XP/MCE and sure enough, Sagetv/Fusion works again. I kept "Windows Update" enabled, and obtained all "recommended" patches to this MCE2005 version. Rollup1 and Rollup2 are not included in the automatic update. However, I do assume that I have the latest and greatest XP installation. I guess I can live with this scenario since I never plan to use Media Center.
I am fighting some other problems now (want to get this system functional and stable and build my identical 2nd computer (hardware gathering dust). When I get to stable setup, I will ghost it, then play with identifying what is breaking Sagetv/Fusion5Lite/MCE2005-Rollup2. However, desparately trying to finish my two HomeTheaters prior to Xmas. Suspect hardware problems....so having identical second system should help eliminate hardware uncertainties here. Get frequent crashes running two Fusion5Lites, and standby/resume is marginal (sometimes goes to standby then immediately starts back up....sometimes starts up from resume and video is dead (eVGA 6600gt). |

One should be a WDM tuner which is for software encoding of SDTV signals. There should be an option for a digital tuner which is the choice you want. Sage works independantly of the fusion app. Infact the only fusion app I have installed on my server right now is the signal checker (incase I bump the antennae or something and need to make sure the signal is still strong).

Sorry, I haven't had to setup my fusion lite in awhile. You actually want to transport stream option, NOT the wdm. Fusionlite has a software encoder for sdtv and I think all (if not most) use a wdm driver. All HD content comes via a transport stream.

Does SageTV support the analog tuner on the FusionHDTV5? I know it supports the HD tuner but I haven't heard anything regarding support for the software analog tuner.
