HD+SD on the Same Lineup

Long time lurker, first time poster. :)

I've got a Fusion5 Lite (I know it isn't offically supported, so if this is just a Lite issue then I will just have to deal with it) and a PVR-250. I just have the antenna so both cards are configured to use local brodcast. When you go in to channel setup you enable and disable channels for that lineup (not the source) so it effects both cards. When I go to an analog channel and the Fusion is set for a higher encoder_merit it says no signal. If the 250 is set higher and I go to a digital channel I get snow. The workaround I do now is start recording with the Hauppauge and then select the HD channel. It works, but it's far from an optimal solution. I've searched high and low in the forums and it doesn't seem like anyone has the same problem. I feel like I'm missing something obvious here?

There's a line in the properties file that is a list of enteries of the channel number and the station ID (from Zap2It). Is it possible for me to just remove the chanels I don't want to access on each particular card? I'm a bit leary to do that since I haven't seen any reference to that as a suggested fix.

Any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks,
Flips

Channel setup is really per-lineup, not per-tuner, so any changes you make will affect all tuners using that lineup. Can you configure them to use separate local broadcast areas? See if there is another one near you that you could modify just for the digital tuner's stations (or whichever one gets fewer channels), then add the missing stations to the other lineup.

Thanks Opus!

I couldn't find anything in my area that had the same channels, I just picked a city, disabled all of its channels and then I manually added my HD channels to it and now it's working fine. It must be that my type of setup (OTA only) is pretty uncommon. Or else everyone else figure that out without having to ask.

Also, the 14 release fixed my sub-channel problem so now it seems as though everything is working 100%, even FSE. Although I do have to restart (and then tell Sage to start fullscreen on windows startup) everytime to get FSE to work if I exit fullscreen mode. But that's not a big deal.

Thanks again,
Flips

It would be nice if that could be changed. One tuner might be better at receiving a channel with a marginal signal than another tuner, or people might have two antennas on separate cable runs, one for bringing in a station in a different direction (antennas on separate runs is the best solution when you have stations in different directions).

That was my plan. Put a Sage server in the attic with multiple ATSC cards. Each would have its own antenna pointing in different directions. Some chanels could be picked up on several cards while some chanels would only be useable on one card.

The MyHD card lets you do that with one card! One of its best features (well, beside having a hardware decoder).

Indeed it would be nice.

In my case I have two tuners. One direct cable, the other on a HDTV cable box.

Because Zap2it doesn't differentiate between an HD subscriber and a non HD subscriber I will have to add another HD box for the second tuner which costs more than a regular box.

ATSC & NTSC channel source/sources issues

I am glad i am not the only one having this same issue. I have a Hauppauge PVR-500 and just purchased a VBOX DTA-151 and was wondering the same thing (for the last few hours now). How do you get each tuner to use only certain channels??? well, now i know. this really should be added as a feature to the sage tv software. I was surprised that it didn't have it already built-in. REALLY surprised. it was frustrating, lemme tell ya.

-osarika

I'll try the fix tomorrow (by moving the channel lineup for my ATSC card) and let everyone know how it works.. BTW, the VBOX DTA-151 seems to be a pretty nicely made card.

A fair number of us have been dealing with this since using Firewire connection from STB while same lineup is needed for SD card via s-video. I have been using 2 lineups that are the same. Fortunately for me, a neighboring city that is serviced by the same CableCo has same lineup but in different zip. For OTA, I think you would have more difficulty. One way to go is to get same but different source is XML.

Now that more people will encounter this limitation, hopefully it will acquire some mass. I have written to Sage some time ago about this issue.

I have two tuners. I first set up my ATI HD Wonder and was able to receive both digital and analog channels. I then moved the analog antenna to my video blaster and set it up. During the channel scan the channels would appear in the thumbnail display. When I went to watch TV I could not receive any analog channels. The error message was no signal. I assume Sage was trying to tune the station on the analog section of the ATI card. I don't want to do this because I want to have the ATI card free to tune digital channels. How can you disable the analog section of the ATI card?
