Post News

I did mess with it some this weekend:
- Mapped out features and version goals
- GUI
- 100% of code to get info out of Sage using nielm's webserver
- fully create dvd submenus
- partially create dvd root menu

New Year's weekend I will not have the opportunity to mess with it.
Monday maybe
Next weekend I probably will mess with it some more

The following link is for your amusement -- it will not output a DVD structure for you:

Just so you know - I got Run-Time error '429': Active-X component can't create object when I tried your teaser..

has anyone got the dvd burning to work? :sigh:
First, i started off with the latest meekell STV, along with the DVD burner installer he offers:
meekell_0_5_0.zip
CreateDVD_05beta_setup.exe
I made sure everything was correct, all the files were in the correct folders, the dvd drive had the write drive letter without a backslash, the temp work folder existed and was empty, the regkey for the installdir was correct, etc etc.

When I added a show to the dvd list, then hit "burn dvd", it would start the process, create a .jpg file, and then stop there without any error messages or anything. no other files were copied or created except for the .jpg

then I deleted the createdvd dir under sagetv, and tried the debug version listed earlier in this thread. This one got much further than the last version but always "dies":

dvdburn.log:
Code:
DVDAuthor::dvdauthor, version 0.6.10.
Build options: gnugetopt iconv freetype
Send bugs to <dvdauthor-users@lists.sourceforge.net>

INFO: Locale=C
INFO: Converting filenames to US-ASCII
INFO: dvdauthor creating VTS
WARN: First cell is not marked as a chapter in PGC 0, setting chapter flag
STAT: Picking VTS 01

STAT: Processing C:\Work\SageDVDBuild\movies\SageTopMenuFinal.mpg...

INFO: Video pts = 0.178 .. 1.846
INFO: Audio[0] pts = 0.178 .. 1.458
INFO: Audio[32] pts = 0.178 .. 0.178

STAT: Processing C:\Work\SageDVDBuild\movies\Squidbillies-TakeThisJobandLoveIt-162772-0.xml_SageSubMenuFinal.mpg...
ERR: Error opening C:\Work\SageDVDBuild\movies\Squidbillies-TakeThisJobandLoveIt-162772-0.xml_SageSubMenuFinal.mpg: No such file or directory
any ideas on how I can get DVD burning to work? this is so frustrating...

OK, I have been having a go at this myself over the past few days.

I have now created a surprisingly simple batch file (just 4 lines long) that will convert create and write a DVD from an mpeg file.

At the moment there is no menu and the DVD will just start playing when inserted. So that's the next step.

I think the first interface to the batch file will be a simple list of arguments which are all the file to be burnt, or possibly the name of a file which contains all the files to be burnt on separate lines (to try and avoid any command line length restrictions).

Once I have that up and running I'll look at how I get it to interface with Sage. It's not something I've tried before so I will analyse what has been done here for a few pointers.

OK

I've dumped the idea of doing it from batch files.

I'm going to drive the process from Sage itself, in effect turning Sage into a GUI for the burning tools. This will allow a future expansion of config settings screens etc.

So far I have just managed to get the DVD menu screen built up from the selected recordings and show title/episode text.

Now I understand how ExecuteProcess works (how the arguments are sent) it should be a lot easier for the rest of the process.

That is the point where it is putting together the DVD structure, and it was processing the "description" page for the show.

man, I really wish this program didn't irritate me so much. i started with batchfiles because i thought it was going to be easy, but then it grew into something much bigger than they could handle. for some reason, it always works for me when testing, but fails for other people...i wish there were a way for people to ship me their shows so that i can run it all through myself and figure out wth is wrong.

not to put anymore hands in the pot on this, but since it seems i've been the closest so far, maybe i'll try and re-write the whole GD thing tonight to be in a .exe with some friggin logic.

sorry, i just grew to hate this program because it sucked the life out of me

There is a new version out in the first post of this thread. I hope that everyone can get the same results using the Meekell STV and that we can move on with this project

Great stuff KJake

Also - I will make a new thread at some point for my inbuilt version so as not to confuse matters.

Do you think you'll be able to help test this too? I'm really anxious to get it working so that I don't loose my momentum

I'll definately be installing this tonight ... and helping with the testing ...

Thank you for the update this has been a great program for me.
I had modified your previous version so that it could build a dvd while another was burning (DVDBuild moved to DVDBurn). I had burning problems which I had fixed by passing the DVDAuthored directory to DVD Shr*nk (can I say that here in this context) run by AutoIt so I didn't have to hit a key. I added volume normalization with BeSw**t. Killed the chapters as Every morning I run videoredo from a batch on all new recordings to confirm commercial cuts (about 30 minutes) and then re-run videoredo from vp.vbs to actually do the cutting without user interaction.

Once again thanks for your work and I look forward to any further updates ...

Bobby

ps -- I apollogize in advance ... six weeks OT and the lack of sleep is showing in my post

Happy to hear that it worked in some fashion for someone
I'm hoping to get a little more feedback this weekend before I start into it again, just so I know there's nothing wrong with the new version atm.

Just so you know, this new version is not as complete and doesn't actually put the DVD structure together yet, but I hope with the next release to have that part ready for testing.

Does anyone have any issues/concerns after testing? I'm going to start working on this more tomorrow night and will release the next version for testing then.

Ok, I'm going to assume no news is good news

I'll be releasing another version for testing tonight. I hope to have it building an ISO so that everyone can test this on their players too.

KJake, I just wanted to say 'thanks' for creating this plug-in. It will be a week or so before I can try it out, but I really do appreciate your willingness to continue on this project. It certainly looks promising...!

Thanks! By then this should be producing a DVD-Video image again and you should be able to test it all the way to the player
