SageTV Lite & V3 & Network Encoding

Andy,

Now that SageTV Lite is being shipped with the PX-TV100U I have a couple of questions. Will SageTV Lite act as a network encoder AND will it work with V3? Can multiple copies of SageTV Lite be run on the same machine, one using a Haupaugge PVR-350 and the other a PX-TV100U and both feeding into V3 as network encoders? Thanks!

Karen

With 3.0.5, neither Overlay or VMR9 work for me. I get video rendering errors in both cases. Selecting Default Render will show a picture, but there is a huge lag in menus and in the display that makes it unusable

(-4,0x80040217) is the error for overlay and (-4,0x0) is the error for VMR9

Not that I know of.

I don't have such a list. You can try tech support -- don't be surprised if they don't have a list either, but who knows. You can also browse the hardware forum, as the question of the "best video card" seems to come up every other day or so.

You could check with tech support, but I don't believe Lite can be used for any of that. Lite isn't network capable and has no client nor acts as a client and can only be used with a single capture device.

Great to see that a new Beta is available, good work!

But has anyone tried if the EOF PVR-350 bug is solved in V3?

(myself I am not able to install V3 in a short period of time to test it :-( )

Im wondering why Sage TV mutes my "line-in" channel every time i start it. This is really annoying since i route my audio through my line in.

Is this a beta issue?

Yes, both SageTV v3.0.3, and v3.0.5 are beta per the title of this particular forum. Just back up a bit by clicking "SageTV Community" (top left) to get back to the main community.

I have had little experience with the line-in channel so maybe someone else can answer that one for ya. Good luck.

I have an AGP Chaintech 5200 128MB and I get a video error when trying to use Fullscreen Exclusive mode. Is there anything you had to do to get it to work? Thanks

I've got to say, my PVR client has NEVER looked as good as it does now, no tearing, movement looks MUCH better. All in all, I'd say 100% better performance. Can't wait until we get moved into the new house and I get to test it out on my HD tv. Hopefully I'll get it running at 1080i in FSE mode .

This beta has gone smoother than I have ever seen any beta release go. What do you think Frey? Time to push the envelope toward some new features?

As far as HDTV is concerned, while I can't speak directly on Sage's behalf, I know that most HTPC software that supports HDTV, the recommendations are a 9600xt for ATI and Geforce Fx5700 and above. I know most recommend the Geforce 6600gt, but I am planning on picking up a Gigabyte Geforce 6600 (comes in both AGP and PCI-E flavors) due to being passively cooled and has component output. I am told you can get away with even a geforce 6200 (as long as it isn't a 64-bit OR one of the Turbo Cache cards) BUT the only 128-bit memory interface cards that I can find have fans and I want passively cooled (oh and there is only about 30 dollar difference).

chiefvalue.com has Gigabyte 6600 128 mb PCI-E version for 109 bucks and the 6600 256 mb AGP version for 140.00 (which is actually a 10 dollar increase for a week ago)...

Hope this helps!

You guys rock. I wonder HDTV Wonder is considered tax free in GA this weekend since its kind of on the line of being an enertainment device. they have gotten to be reasonably cheap.

I can speak from troubleshooting a friends pc, with the HDTV wonder it will NOT work with an All In Wonder 9600xt card dispite what it says on the box. That support was suposed to have been added via a driver update but it hasn't come in over six months.

I couldn't get it to work in 3.0.3, but for some reason 3.0.5 didn't want to upgrade my machine, so I just removed client completely and re-installed. Once I had re-installed the client, it worked fine in FSE mode. I also THINK it's using the Sage decoder currently. I'll see if I can VNC to the machine here shortly and check it (I'm at work, but have a dedicated VPN connection to home ).

I am testing the beta with SageTV not SageTVClient so I am not sure if there is a difference. In any event, I can't get it to work.... speaking of which

what does the Fullscreen Exclusive do?????

I still wish The original stv's had more user friendly features out of the box. I am so used to clicking the up/down buttons on my remote to channel surf (as elegantly implemented in mlbdude2.stv) Another annoying feature is that when the info screen is up and you want to adjust the volume, the left/right buttons on my remote no longer control the volume. Instead, left/right changes the level of detail on program info and I am forced to use the actual +/- volume buttons. However when the info screen clears, the left/right buttons regain volume control.

Also I am glad to report Nielm's webserver still work fine in beta as well as my trusty mlb2dude.stv (originally made for 2.0)

P.S. a fresh install didn't fix the Fullscreen Exclusive issue with the FX5200 either.

Thanks
i'd love to see this too, (maybe they can get some help from Anders) i'm at least hoping that we can simplify the graphs a lot since Sage supports TS files now, but I haven't had a chance to play with it yet

I was think of buying a couple of these and switch to MYTHtv because of lack of HDTV support.. But now maybe I'll give Sage another chance....

Not that I know of.
I sure hope that Sage does decide to do this. There are a lot of us out here with this configuration, and it would be nice to simplify the configuration somewhat.

I also wondered about this so I googled it.

the short version
"Fullscreen exclusive is when an application has total control of the drawing and event processing, ie it doesnt run in a window. The same as most games"

a bit more detailed

SageTV Lite will only work on its own and does not support multiple tuners. It was designed as a way for OEMs to ship a fully working PVR product that doesn't expire (like many of the trial versions that ship or SE type software with other cards). With SageTV Lite you get a full 3-day EPG with no additional fees. We then removed features like Favorites Manager and Search along with other media support to entice the user to upgrade to the full version of SageTV.

Currently SageTV Lite is only available with the TV100U but there's more on the way and it will eventually be a retail product towards the final release of V3.

I have installed 3.0.5 over my old 2.2.8 and I like to try FSE with my FX5200.
However the line where I should enable FSE (in detailed setup, advanced) is missing.
VMR9 and 3d accell are both set, restarting and rebooting does not make a change.

Any clues????

Thanks, jan

edit: I found that when I go back from SageMC169 to original SageTV3 stv, I do get the line.
