It Jere OK? He seems to have fallen off the face of the Earth!!

I'm just concerned because he hasn't posted to this or to his own forum in over a month! His last post (on either forum) was on 8/22!!!

I'd just like to know that he is OK.

Here's a strange one. SA was working fine one day and the next day suddenly no commercials were being marked. NOTE: No reboot, no crash, lockup, new software, updated software or anything.

I did a CTRL-ALT-DEL to get the list of processes and there was SA running chewing up memory.
No biggie, I figured it was a bad mpeg that SA choked on so I went to Dirmon to see what file it was working on and wrote out dummy files so taht SA would think it was done with that mpeg. (There was a completely empty 0 byte SA .log file. in the directory for that mpeg)
I then killed the SA process (no visible SA start bar icon has showed up in a very long time, no idea why). It dutifully killed the process and a few seconds later Dirmon fired off another SA process for the next mpeg.

I hear a DONK sound from my speaker and there's SA in the same condition with the same 0 byte .log file for the next mpeg.
So I figure maybe, just maybe something is corrupt in the SA installation. So I uninstall/reinstall SA. Same thing as soon as I start Dirmon.

Nothing in the log files in the SA directory, 0 by log files for the mpegs. Now I'm pulling out my hair.

I know that Dirmon isn't the problem, but just in case I fire up SA manually and select one of the mpeg files. A message flashes by and disappears as I hear the DONK sound from the speaker. I run another one and catch a message saying something about the trial time having run out and I need to register. HUH? I am registered and SA has been working fine for a VERY long time, well over a year or more.

So I re-enter my registration info and SA starts working again.

Jere, I hope you're doing ok, and you've been so quiet the last 6 weeks because you're hard at work on the H.264 capable version of SA.
In your coding for the new version a note in the SA log, and a more graceful exit when this condition comes up would be great.

If I hadn't stumbled upon the error message running the file manually I would either still be pulling my hair out trying to figure out what went wrong, or have moved over to Comskip out of desperation.

I'm new to SageTV and SA. I just installed SageTV and want to get the best commercial skipping functionality. From reading this thread, it appears that SA 1.0 is/was to be released in September. I don't see any evidence of it on the dragonglobal.biz web site, though. The product page shows v0.90, and downloads shows 0.9.7.

Can anyone confirm that I will receive SA 1.0 if I buy it now?

Thanks,

Tim.

Also, has anyone heard from Jere Jones or seen anything updated by him recently? The last time he posted on this forum was 8/22. I sent him a message about a month ago and never got a reply.

v1 isn't out of private beta yet, and been Jere's missing since september.

0.9.7 works really well, but it doesn't have all the features that v1 has.

I heard from him at the end of October. I think he summed it up pretty well with the statement "I hate Vista!"

He's also had some real life issues going on so I'm sure he'll be back soon.

I posted this in the Dragonglobal forum, but there doesn't seem to be much activity there. I'm testing SA for the first time, and trying to make it work with MVW (MPEG Video Wizard). I'm testing SA on a 1 hour MPEG 2 show on a separate machine first before trying to integrate SA with SageTV.

I configured SA to output the beyondTV XML file that MVW reads as bookmarks. Using default settings SA creates 5 bookmarks in the first 12 minutes that are not related to commercial breaks. I tried Schoolhouse, and adjusted parameters until it recognized commercials correctly, then saved the settings as a profile.

In "Configure ShowAnalyzer" I discovered the "Auto Settings" and created a rule to select my new profile based on filename.

I then run SA again. I don't see any indication of what profile is being used in the status display. Is there any way to tell if the rule matched and a profile was selected?
Unfortunately, the .xml file output is unchanged - still only 5 bookmarks in the first 12 minutes, unrelated to commercials. Maybe the rule did not match for some reason?

In "Global Settings", "Configure ShowAnalyzer" has an option that specifically is listed as "Womble MPEG Video Wizard". I have it set to "When Done Processing". The note at the bottom says it will create a .wme file.

As far as I can tell, my version of MVW does not open .wme files. I'm using the latest version of MVW (simply called 2008). Was the .wme file for an earlier version of MVW? Or is there a trick to getting it to open that file type?

Thanks!

In the latest version of SA that has been released I believe there is a setting to enforce the SchoolHouse method of detection.

In order to use the profiles you have to have the web interface for Sage set up and make sure that SA can properly access the web server.

Jere is still posting to his blog regularly so he's still around. I was kind of disappointed that he left SA hanging. I've moved on to comskip which is working very well for me - even with h.264

UPDATE: I'm wrong - he's not posting to his site regularly....

The last entry I see on his blog at dragonglobal.org is from June. Where are you seeing him still posting?

Jere posted a new version for the Beta forum on Monday. He does not set glowing expectations, but sounds like he's got a lot of the functionality there.

I posted this at the DragonGlobal forums, but everything about SA seems pretty slow right now...

I just reinstalled Sage on WHS and am trying to get SA and DirMon running on the server as well... but I can't.

SA just won't go. If I try to load an mpg file, it opens, says "initializing..." then quits. The log file returns this:

This log created by ShowAnalyzer v0.9.7
21:13:02(0) IsValid: 0 ShouldBeProcessed: 1

I can't figure out what's going on. Is there something I am doing wrong? It works fine on another (Vista) machine.

I am also disappointed that it seems SA is a dead project, and it is what it is. I guess it's time to give comskip a try.

Yes he is! He just posted a new SAV1 build which should get rid of a few of the nagging issues I've seen so far, and the performace is supposed to be boosted as well. I just slapped the new bulld in place and am looking forward to seeing it in action. Unfortunately, the first 3 shows it's going to be hitting against are House Hunters, Divine Design and some other HGTV show...ugh, it figures! I just recorded a MythBusters episode earlier this evening before I had a chance to install the new SA...I would have loved to have it break in on one of MY recordings. Oh well!
