as its bytes per second, will this work on files accross the network or do you have to have the physical disk in the same machine that SA is running?

It will work regardless of the source.

Digital/HD skipping

Hi, I did search and found parts and pieces, but still cant figure it out.

I am now recording digital / HD with the Hauppague 1600 card, and SA does not detect commercials on digital / HD recordings. For analog it works great. I am using the .edl extension. Are there other setting I need to set for make this work on digital / HD recordings?

Thanks

It should work out of the box with the default settings. Assuming all your HD recordings have a .mpg extension.

Thanks gplasky,

I am pretty sure they are .mpg extentions. I will confirm when i get home tonight. If they are not, how would I make sure that they are? And if they are, any other things I can look for? I think the last time I updated the SA software was 2-3 months ago.

If they have the .mpg extension you should be good. Go grab the latest SA (0.9.6 I think) and start using that.

Is there a way in DirMon or ShowAnaylzer to have it not process files below a certain size?

In DirMon I saw a section for "Ignore" but it wanted a Perl statement and I'm not familiar with Perl. I'm wanting ShowAnaylzer to ignore the small files that SageTV creates when flipping through the channels when you have Intelligent Recording turned on, in SageTV.

Thanks, Andrew

Jere,

Is there something going on with your forums? I can read them, but it won't let me post or even edit my own messages anymore.

Thanks for explaining how the CPU throttling works, and a work around for it. I started using the disk limiting, and it appears to be working rather well. I set it up for 1/2 MB / second access, and am running 4 instances of SA at any given time. The CPU averages around 70%, but jumps around quite a bit. Too bad there is not a way to average CPU usage over a given time...

We'll see how this works out for now. I turned CPU throttling off for the time being.

Not that I know of. I did just upgrade the forum to 3.7.0 and implemented new rules limiting the use of the PM system due to our lovely PM spammer.

I'll look into it.

Not yet. But the next generation of ShowAnalyzer has a kinda DirMon built in that does allow that. I hope to have it available for public consumption in a couple weeks.

I've have SageTV setup with padding at the beginning and end of each recording to take into account start time variations. Is there any way to have ShowAnalyzer mark the first and last segments as commercials regardless of the "score" that Show Analyzer calculates?

You can mark a specific amount of time at the beginning as commercial or not, but not the first or last segment as a whole. I always thought that was too... dangerous.

Is there anyone else that would like to see this?

If I can get three yes's (from different people ) then I'll code it up tonight and release it tomorrow. There's another fix that needs to go out so this will be a good opportunity.

In that case I'll say yes to the other request just to get my fix published. I may even use the other feature.
