I've never had ShowAnalyzer lock my system.

What it does do (and has for quite some number of versions now) is to sometimes get stuck as the show closes and suck CPU until I kill it with task manager. If I wait to launch it until the program's stopped recording, it doesn't do it.

It also sounds like maybe your triggers aren't correct, like maybe it's getting stuck in a loop it can't get out of?

So the triggers in Dirmon2? I will try to run showanalyzer on a show on its own, without Dirmon2, and if that works then most likely you are right Jason. Fingers crossed.

That would be my bet, if it works without DM2 running it, then you may need to take a close look at your triggers. Good luck.

Jason, you look to be right. Dirmon2 Seems to freeze the PC. I am not sure why. Please see my .ini file below. Any idea on where i may be off. Thanks

Try removing "Must Exist 1 = mpg". Telling DM2, "Target 1 = mpg" is already detecting that the file is an mpg file, I think DM2 gets confused with the way you have it.

Also, I'm not sure what method you are using for playing your files back, with the comskip files, but if you are using one that support edl files, such as SageMC, I'd recommend changing the "Must Not Exist 1 = txt" to "Must Not Exist 1 = edl" instead. (Oh, but you also must turn on edl file generation inside of SA, otherwise, you get in another endless loop, read the description text at the very bottom of the available options, and it will tell you which one generates edl files, I forget the name off hand.)

That should get you going.

Well, i took out the 'must exist' line and tried it, but still freezes the machine. I am out of ideas. Maybe i can go back to Dirmon1, or comskip monitor.

Can you send me a screen capture of your settings in DM2 for ShowAnalyzer?

Or, if not, post your ini file again (minus password of course).

I'll take a closer look, and see if I can find what is causing it.

Did you take a look at the tutorial for setting up DM2 and SA in my signature? That has all my screen shots for setting it up and getting it working.

Thanks for taking a look.
Yes, I used your guide as a template - i had set this up a while ago, and it was working fine for some time. But since the reinstall it does the freeze. I even tried the prior .ini settings. If it helps, it always freezes when SA is triggered. But that has always been its state since there is a backlog. Unable to post the image, but here is the ini.

PS-i am unable to get DM2 to work by using user name and pw in global settings - only able to use LocalSystem in order for it to start. I am creating txt and edl, as i have a lot of old recordings, and see no need to re-SA them in order to get new edls.

About the only significant things I can see:

1. Process Subdirectories is set to 0 in two places in your ini file, which would mean that all your recordings would have to be in your D and F drives, but looking at your cleanup, it appears that is what you are doing (so you have no folders then, right?). That seems a bit odd, but I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work.

2. I'm not positive, but there may have been an issue with using the root directory on a drive. Don't quote me on that though.

So, are you saying that you can run SA manually, and it doesn't hang the system? What process is actually hanging the system?

I'm starting to think now, that it may be an SA problem. Your settings within DM2 look good, from what I can tell.

I had a hard time getting service mode working with DM2. I just messed around with admin services within windows, and finally got it working. Your username should be the same as the one that logs into the computer, and have the same password. Not the format of the userid in my ini file, ".\bentz"

If all else fails, and SA doesn't even run, try posting your global.ini and default.ini files from SA (removing any personal information, such as the webserver information, etc.)

Thanks again Jason, I have some progress.

It does work. I did three things and will try to work back:

*able to log in as user
*took off blackout
*removed cleanup settings

Follow up:

Well, it seems to be working now. Jason, after a few times doing this, i noticed that it kept freezing on the same .mpg file. So I think SA was getting hung up on that file -- it was a recording of scrubs. Not sure why that file, but all seems fine now. Thanks for the help Jason, it was invaluable - and helped me clean up my Dirmon2 settings.

Re: videos to the root - i guess when i first started i did not think i would keep this running - but still here two years later.

I had some problems with SA hanging on mpeg files recorded on my pvr150 before I added the timestamp registry fix.

Apparently, SA doesn't tolerate corrupt mpeg's all too well...

I know that my PVR 150 sometimes generates poor mpg files. This is the 1st that I've seen the "timestamp registry fix". Can you provide a few details or a link?

Thanks.

Thanks. Done. Now maybe I won't have to fix as many files with VideoReDo!

SA Hangs at end of recording

I was an original adopter of trying out SA back during the original betas. I purchased the product, but gave up on it due the lock-ups and hangs. I figured I would try it again now that we are at beta .8 instead of when I was testing at beta .5.

Still, I cannot get it working smoothly. I have a dirmon2 setup, which seems to be firing the SA correctly - however, on some (maybe 1 out of 4) recordings at the END of the scan when the status is "Done" and the progress bar shows 100% processed the SA program hangs and brings the CPU utilization of the PC up to 100% (making SageTV almost unresponsive). When I kill the SA process all returns back to normal, until the next SA session hits the same problem again.

Before I get into posting detail, I was wondering if this was addressed somewhere already? 50 pages of replies is hard to parse

Specifically the symptoms are 100% cpu utilization and the end of the processing and a status of "Done".

PS, the EDL files are created - and seem to work even though SA hangs at the end.

It does not appear to be a dirmon2 issue, as only one SA thread is launched at a time - and correctly it seems.

Thanks for reading this ahead of time!

SA hangs after processing some files

I am having this same issue. I thought it had been fixed in the latest release as I went for a couple of days with no hangs...but then it started again. I can't seem to find a pattern in the occurrences - it seems to process a file fine, finish, and then it never closes...it just sits there and eats up CPU cycles. This problems or closely related variants has been around for a while...are others having this issue also?

Same problem here. I finally made sure that the recording was done before kicking-off SA and it hasn't happened since. IMO, the problem is happening when the file is closed by the recording program.
