Jere.
What preselector do you think works best, in your opinion? Mine is currently set to Manual, with a value of 33. Jason.

I'm sorry to sound like a complete moron (or maybe I'm just off my game today) but I don't see an installation instructions anywhere for installing SA (and I guess I read DirMon) to get to work with Sage.
Is there a step by step manual for getting all this to work? thanks! |

Oh, for those curious, I've just uploaded 0.8.4. As always, you can find it (and older versions) at www.dragonglobal.org/downloads.htm
The main improvements revolve around the SchoolHouse and how edge profiles are used. There is one major change: ShowAnalyzer will start a 2 week trial mode upon installation. It will work "out of the box" now. You won't have to find the third-party decoders or get a trial key. Once the trial expires, you can still ask for a trial key and it will work, so now you can use SA for up to a month. I have no idea what I was thinking, making it so hard to try SA at full potential. Is the only way for a Sage client to access the .edl files and make use of them via UNC recording directories? I have 2 sources (2 R5000's) that wont work with UNC recording directories. I could use UNC paths, but then I can never watch live/time shifted R5000 recordings. What if I do one of:
1) Map my 2 recording drives to identical drive letters on the client? 2) Any way to force the client into thinking it has UNC paths, while server runs non-UNC paths? 3) Or I could push my QAM and OTA recordings to a UNC path and only SA those shows, and keep R5000 recordings to non-UNC path, and not process with SA. What if I processed the R5000 files, and eventually moved both the mpg and edl to an UNC import directory? Will the clients then accept the edl info and make use of it?

Guess I will reply to myself.
One of my recording drives was already setup as a UNC path, so I created some of the edl files for a few shows on that drive, and on the sage server's GUI, I have nice working commercial blocks. But absolutely nothing on the client. If I move the show and its edl file to a UNC import directory, then the client picks up the commercial segments.

Based on a post about my comment in another thread, I thought I would add that you can rename the recording dir when making it a UNC path so that the old location isn't seen any more. Then, the recording will be found only in the new UNC path & its path will be updated in the database.

Jere,
I've got Dirmon2/SA 0.8.4 setup to scan shows as they're being recorded (vs waiting for them to finish). I'm having a problem where some (but not all) shows that are started while recording is in process, never finish. I've set the Live Detection Delay to 10s, and the Live Detection Hold Off to 10MB (which seems to have solved my problem with some detections ending prematurely). So the problem is, SA starts a log, but never writes anything to it, and just sits at: Current Time = 0 Current Frame = 0 Current FPS = 0 Average FPS = 0 Current Status = Scanning... If I kill the process/stop SA, I can scan the finished file without issue. Any ideas what I can do to either: a) Fix it b) Help debug it? |

You mean they never finish when the show finishes? The way SA operates on the files, is that it keeps processing the show until the show is finished recording, so it will almost look like it's hung up, because it's waiting on the show to be finished, before it finishes, if that makes since. It's scanning the show, then waiting, scanning, then waiting.
If you get those SA processes that never go away, even after the show is finished, and are using 0% CPU, then I've found that if you get SA setup to the way you want it, then stop the DM2 service (if that's what you are using) and use the uninstall button, then the install button, and start the service again. I've always found, that's it's always best to stop the service, and uninstall (button) when upgrading versions of SA, or changing settings. Usually this fixes the problems I've had with 0% CPU instances of SA.

And I can scan the finished file afterward, or if I kill the SA process Dirmon will start it again because it never wrote a file. Quote:
