Memory Leak

Jere-

I have had troubles with the last two beta versions of sa springing a memory leak. As SA runs it gradually consumes more and more memory until it grinds the server to a standstill (it was at 3 gig used with version .72 earlier tonight) I upgraded to .74 and it is processing about 20 shows and the memory keeps climbing without stopping currently at 600mb of memory used and climbing.

I am using 0.7.4.242 of ShowAnalyzer am have the thread priority set to "IDLE" in the ShowAnalyzer Configuration. However, when dirmon2 launches ShowAnalyzer and I look at it in the TaskManager it shows up as "NORMAL" priority. Wondering if others are seeing this bug?

I dont think this is a bug. The Windows Task Manager shows process priority, and not thread priority. You would need a tool like 'Process Explorer' from sysinternals.com to see the thread priority.

Ah, umh, ok ...

So the active threads shown in 'Properties/Threads' for the process show a base/dynamic priority of 8 instead of 4 ?
Yeah, then this doesnt look right ...

What about the thread above which shows some CPU activity (I would assume this is the thread which does the processing), does it also list these priorities ?

It actually shows a 1 for both base and dynamic priority. But when I right click in the tree and go to priority...."NORMAL" is highlighted. Please see attachments....

Hi Jere,

For some reason, none of the version 7 ShowAnalyzers (0.7.0, 0.7.1, 0.7.3, 0.7.4) seem to work very well on my system. I went back to 0.6.2, erased all the .txt files and let DirMon do it's thing. Detects the commercials much better. With 0.7.x, there were several instances of 'reverse detection' where the actual show was considered the commercial and skipped.

Is there something I missed going from 0.6.2 to 0.7.x ?

Is there an easy way to 'import' the 0.6.2 settings into 0.7.4 ?

Well, I had trouble with 0.7.2. I then upgraded to 0.7.4 and when I did I made sure to delete all things showanalyzer related. Things worked great for the last few weeks with no more errors compared to 0.7.2 (detection seems to be hit or miss relative to the 0.6.x version - better sometimes, worse others). That is, until today. Now I am back to gettign the errors I was getting with 0.7.2. I currently don't do anything HD related.

Here is the error.............

OS: Windows XP Professional, SP2
CPU: AuthenticAMD, AMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2100+, MMX @ 1733 MHz

Module name: C:\Program Files\Dragon Global\ShowAnalyzer\ShowAnalyzer.exe

Application data:

SA 0.7.2 not logging into webserver that I just upgraded. I changed the web server version in SA to 2.8 and ran the connection test and it fails. I'm using SSL on the webserver which worked before. Is there a log or something that shows exactly how it is failing? Anything else I can provide let me know....

0.7.5 - 12 June 2006
- Fixed possible crash at the end of DVR-MS files.
- Fixed crash when TS files have some crazy user data.

This version should wrap up all the crashes. If you are still experiencing crashes then uninstall SA and make sure that the SA directory is completely deleted. Then search your hard drives for showanalyzer.exe and showanalyzer.dll. Make sure that you search hidden and system directories as well.

Then reinstall and reregister. All should be well...

Jere

Uh oh. This 0.7.5 will not run on my system. Double clicking the showanalyzer icon from the start menu throws the attached error. No log is generated in the showanalyzer directory.

I'm getting a "page not found" when trying to download version 0.7.4.

Are the links to earlier versions broken?

Confirmed and fixed. Anyone who downloaded 0.7.5 prior to the posting of this message should redownload and reinstall.

Thanks!

By and large, I remove old versions when I post new ones. The exceptions are the last version of a major number. So, for example, you can still download 0.5.10 and 0.6.2.

I've had many of the crashes that (I think) other people have had. The latest version seems "better". I'd say that it crashes on 1 out of 10 files for me -- and aways after it detects most (if not all) of the commercials.

How can I help you figure it out? What do you need? (The video? the error message?)

thanks!

rwc

That is valuable information. I had thought it was crashing somewhere in the middle of the show. Thanks! I now have somewhere new to look.

The video itself would be most helpful.

Is it me, or does the newer version of SA not produce the right vrpj (Video Redo Project files)files? I have it set to do absolute paths so I can just double click on my shares and rip the commercials from the programs, but the files are set up to do //computername/share/file insteady of the normal \\computername\share\file. The // does not work, but if I change them all the \\ they do. Do I have a setting wrong or is this something in SA that needs to be fixed?
