A quick look at SAConfig will probably show that the edl files are turned on. Just remove the click and they won't be generated. Or you can add edl to the target extensions in DirMon and they will get deleted.

Jere, in ShowAnalyzer or DirMom (forget which), there is a tab to select conneting to Sage web service with an account/password.

What is this for?

Cool, thanks for that. I just added that, because I saw a bunch of edl files not being deleted.

SA can use the id number in the filename to extract information about the recording. For example, what channel it was recorded from. That information can be used to select a different profile (Automatic Profile Selection).

Why is this useful? Imagine that you record from HBO. You could set up the SageTV webserver so SA knows when a recording is from HBO and set up that channel for "DoNotProcess". Then you won't waste CPU cycles on a show that doesn't have commercials.

Many people also use it to fine tune settings for different channels since different channels go to and from commercials differently.

It is most certainly NOT overlooked. DirMon has simply been put on hold while I'm rewritting SA.

How did Lost do for you this past week? Just curious as this show seems to single handedly cause the most trouble out of everything I record and comskip..

Could it be because there are a lot of dark scenes in the show that SA is struggling? For now I've turned off Comskip on Lost and am using the 10sec/30sec FF option.

That was my original though too.. lots of fade to black for those backstory moments.. I'm thinking all that fading causes SA to get befuddled.. We may need a custom show setting for this one..

OK, first off..I tried SA in free mode 1st and was impressed, and 10min later I bought a licence (using 0.6.2). Now, I've discovered that one common thing that SA and comskip both have failed on for me are the big long boring commercials. I tried settings in comskip to no avail.

Now I hope SA will do a much better job. An example is the very boring DR trimmer commercial, or one of those long greatest hits music releases commercials (eg. beegees) which seem to go on for 2:30min. SA atleast simply missed them, where I had comskip marking the show after it as a commercial; which is far more annoying.

Any suggestions? I suppose these are harder to detect then multiple 30s spots.

Try increasing the maximum individual commercial setting.

Thanks.
I tried that with comskip and it didn't seem to work....and when I did get it to work on long commercials, it started messing up the other normal commercials instead Hopefully SA does better.

BTW: I'm a little excited about the future of SA...I dream of perfect commecial skipping. Thanks for your work. Dirmon + SA = happy me!

So far, my experience with SA has been good, with a few exceptions. I have Sage set up to record HD content via Firewire. SA is processing these files, but not detecting commercials very well. Both Desperate Housewives and 24 this week have not done well. What's funny is they both seem to have marked exactly the same two sections of the hour-long show (one 3-4 minute section near the middle, and a 5-6 minute one near the end). While watching the show, it's not a cutscene or fade or anything, just a mark right in the middle of the action.

Could there be something I have set incorrectly to cause this behavior?

So far, all recordings from my PVR-250's seem to process well.

Are you capturing Transport Streams, or Program Streams from your box? I had thought that all of the firewire downloads were TS (If you use the newer method, dumps straight from the box to a TS file). If so it most likley won't detect anything (not compatible with TS currently). If you're converting those TS to PS files on the fly with filters, then it should detect commercials (at least I think it should).

Sometime I really need to get my system doing the conversion to PS from my box, just haven't had time to fool with it...

I followed the instructions posted in the thread over in HW Support, i.e. I am still converting to PS, in the hopes that SA would work on these files. However, it seems as though this may be causing me some issues. I may remove that graph and wait for SA to begin processing TS files...

Jere,
havn't heard any news about 0.6.3 yet, Just wondering because I know you are re-writing things and working on HD detecting. I'm having mixed results with Digital and HD recordings from my Fusion5. Sometimes it will commercial detect fine, sometimes it exits almost immeidately without detecting anything, sometimes (I think) it goes for a few minutes and exits without detecting anything.

I havn't been keeping logs or samples of recordings around to investigate with, just maybe hoping that the next release will fix some things.

I've been having problems with showanalyzer using up 90-100% cpu for the first minute/30s or so once it starts a scan; despite the fact that I have it set for 30% max. Any settings I may have missed? It seems to work just fine after that, limiting to around 30% as it should. It doesn't cause playback problems (yet) but it shouldn't be doing it anyway. The unfortunate result is my power supply gets all excited and ramps up the fan temporarily which makes it annoyingly audible.

I have taken a short break from SA to rewrite DirMon. I'm almost done so I'll be back to work on SA shortly.

If you are using SA in free mode then there is nothing that can be done. It is a function of the third party decoders. Sorry.
