In 3.05, you can see it's possible to have animation by looking at the sagetv logo that spins when it's loading something. But if it compromises performance, I'd rather not have any. I like animations that are useful not just for eyecandy, such as scrolling text when entire line of text cannot fit in the specified space, like in the EPG. Another thing is background changes, like with Tivo where it changes background and colors depending on the menu you are going to, makes it easier to tell where you are at. Tivo got the backgrounds in animated loops, but it can be a still frame.

How does it animate in MCE 2005? Do the buttons just slide off the side of the screen like Tivo?

I remember having it in my code at one time along with the rotating A in Sage a while back, but I took it out as the PVR350 slowed to a crawl for me. But turning it off would be a great idea.
There are menu animations, where as you select an item, the other options smoothly scroll down (or up) and there is a slight 'wobble' as an item is selected.
Once you select an item, the current screen zooms away behind you, as the new screen zooms toward you.

It's kind of slick !!

Cheers

Mark

See mlbdude's v3 update to SageMC for an example of some menu animation.

You beat me too it! On my server the animations look great! On my client(MVP) however, they look stilted and jerky. It is more than likely just the network and transfer throughput that is slowing them down.

I am also using MVP as a client, and the animations are slow and a pain. I love the SageMCE STV, it's brilliant and does everything I could ask, but is there a way of turning the animations OFF so that the package responds properly via an MVP ? Any help appreciated !

You can simply turn off the animations in the properties file. I can't remember the exact parameter now, but it is fairly obvious when you see it.

You want the Word PaperClip?

Only if it is an option. Animations are gaudy, slow down menu activity and waste computer horsepower.
