I just built my Sage box a couple weeks ago, and I made sure to download the lastest drivers from the Hauppauge website. when I first installed the drivers, I was using older ones. The driver update didn't seem to make any difference in picture quality.

I found a tremendous difference in quality by using the Tweaker to set the temporal static level to zero (from the default of 8). Go to the 150/500 Advanced tab, choose each tuner one at a time from the Encoder settings popup menu and click Open, go to the Dynamic Noise Reduction tab and drag the Static Level slider in the Temporal group to zero. Reboot.

What is the Tweaker? Sorry, but I don't have any idea...is this Hauppauge software?

http://www.cask-of-amontillado.com/pvr_tweak.html

You'll want to use the 23074 drivers (go to ftp.shspvr.com/download/wintv-pvr_150-500/prerelease) if you use the line-in audio (see other threads here), and the settings I mentioned above may not work with the latest drivers.

I tried the Tweaker with the setting you suggest...two problems.
First, the some of the settings don't seem to stick. After I reboot, then reopen the Tweaker, the temporal settings are reset to 8.
Second, after playing around with many of the settings, I can't really see much of a difference.

I'll keep messing with it...

Ordered a Powercolor T55E, installed it yesterday.
Picture is the same as the Hauppauge. Maybe a TINY bit better, but still no comparison to the Mitsubishi's tuner.

So, I'm going to return the T55E. At least this restored some of my opinion of the Hauppauge tuner quality. Most reviews are saying the T55E is the best analog tuner card out there right now.

Are there any other dual tuners out there besides the Win TV 500 that are any good? Question: when people move around on the screen, sometimes I see "pixelation" rather than smooth transitioning. I'm not sure if it is just quality loss when the Win TV does its hardware mpg2 encoding or what.

Any ideas on how to improve the quality on that and any other dual tuners out there?

Thanks,
Mike
