Hmmm... My intention was to resolve this with a bit of humor, strange as my humor may be at times. Now that I read it again, I hope this didn't come across too harshly. I suppose the real point is: there is a lot of stuff in SageTV (and some that isn't). If you are brand new to it, it would be better to ask a question about the functionality rather than to immediately assume something isn't there and complain about it and call it a bug. If you immediately go on the attack, others will often respond in-kind. Most of the regular posters around here are quite willing to help when asked nicely.

I didn't intend to bash sage or anyone here. I just couldn't find the functionality I wanted and asked if this could be done. I'm just not used to how some of the things in sage work.

I'll take that whup-ass like a man.

My beef about this is that it treats anything you watch during live TV as having manually recorded it for weighting in the intelligent recording feature.

Or at least it seems like it. The number of times it's automatically recorded whole episodes of the garbage show before the (slightly less) garbage show that my wife wants to watch I cannot count.

It's hard convincing it otherwise, and then next week when she catches the tail end of the same show again my work is undone. :-(

No, retraining the wife to only watch recordings is not an option if I want to hold onto a single WAF point... She's too impatient.

You asked for it.
First you came into a SAGETV forum, then set a tone that MythTV is flawless and SageTV needs to be more like MythTV. Then you use words like "you windows users" .... that's just asking for backlash.

But at least you are willing to take as much as you give, so fair game.

Anyway, back to the buffer issue. To lessen the confusion between "buffering" and "recordings," let's just say that SageTV doesn't buffer, it records LiveTV. This is different from other PVR softwares because it allows you to save LiveTV if you choose to. So when you watch LiveTV, its doing a recording of that scheduled program. But unlike a Favorite or Manual recording, it deletes the recording for the current show when you tell it to stop or when you change the channel, in which it will start recording the new channel.
