I too have gotten the .mp4 format to play natively in Sage. However, I never could get it to stream to a client. My work around for this is simply to use Cayars (Version17) and setup external video player for non-native file types.
When I open a mp4 file in Sage it minimizes Sage opens ShowTime and plays the file fine. When I shut down ShowTime after I am done watching the mp4 then Sage just pops up out of sleep. My Hauppauge remote does this all seemlessly and works great with both programs.
This sets me up for the future as well. Sage CANNOT play AVC/H.264 mp4 files and probably won't for a while. And I now encode my dvd's using AVC as I get the same quality with HALF the bitrate as Nero's ASP version. My AVC encodes average around 350MB for a 2 hour movie.
