I use a Mac. My favorite program for simple edits prior to burning a DVD is MPEG Streamclip. I use ffmpeg for transcoding, conversions.

Thanks Kanati I am using the trial version of Videoredo and really like it over mpeg-vcr. Videoredo has bigger buttons, easier menus, more options, audio sync is correct and best of all worked straight from the initial download. For those using mpeg-vcr, give Videoredo a try, you might not go back.

I have Ulead's editor, but I was getting audio sync problems after my first commercial cut. If someone can help me figure that out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I am also using VideoReDo. That program so far worked the best and without any audio/video sync problems. There is a fully functional trial available for download -- I think it is only limited to 2 weeks or so, but the functionality is not crippled in any way so you can really use it to thoroughly test.

The company is also releasing a new version "soon" (whatever that means). But the upgrade will be free. The most interesting part of the new version for me will be the sound wave display in addition to video.

PINNACLE STUDIO v9 works great, simple and idiot proof even for someone like me. Edit, splice, create menus, burn to DVD all in one package. I have the deluxe version wich also allows me to captue DV and anolog video for edit as well. About $200, but if you wait for sales can be had for about half of that (less the capture /input card)

I use mpeg-vcr to cut commercials. I tried Womble and VideoRedo and was getting audio sync problems. There probably is no "perfect for everyone" editor. It seems to me that some programs work better on some systems while other programs work better on other systems. It's hit or miss finding the right editor for your system.....at least it is in my experience.

I tried mpeg-vcr and didn't like the small buttons. I really like VideoRedo because the buttons are huge! Easy for quick commercial cutting. When it is saving my cuts, there is a countdown timer which is nice. Takes about 2mins for a 30min show, which isn't bad. I then use Ulead to make the DVD because I like that it doesn't need more space to make the menus on the disc. I can usually get 5 30min shows on a dvd with great quality (using DVD long play in sagetv I think).
