Here's what I see in terms of recent posts about the 350's tv-out on the BG-PVR forum: Support for the 350's TV-out was dropped More in-depth comments on using the 350's tv-out So - is that what you want SageTV to match? I think they can buy the rights to that concept pretty cheaply. Or, was there a newer solution? If SageTV ever finds a way around the problems in the 350's driver for using the UI overlay on top of the video playback, they will implement that. - Andy

The only reason you want to hang on to the 350's TV-out feature is because it is the best quality you can get for TV output to a standard definition TV. If not for the outstanding output quality, I think many people would've bite the bullet for the money they spent on the 350 and just give up on it.
But with SageTV now supporting the Media MVP, this is a perfect replacement for the 350 TV-Out. Sure you have to spend $110 for the MVP, which includes an extender license, but at least it has non of the issues of the 350. Plus the output quality of the MVP is almost as good, I dare say 95% there. I own both the 350 and the MVP, so thats what I see, just a 5% difference in quality in favor of the 350. But I'm sure most people will sacrifice 5% quality for stability. And for $110, you also get Divx, Xvid, WMX, Avi, Vob, etc transcoding with the MVP, which is not possible with the 350. The PVR-350 TV-Output is just bad hardware and software design. I know Opus4 is just aggitated about complaints with the last post, but seriously, I do think SageTV will eventually drop support for the 350's TV out also. And all is not lost, the 350 is still a good hardware TV tuner/encoder.

I used to have the probem described. Somewhen with a 2.x version the problem got resolved. I can't rememeber anymore whether I applied a registy/property file tweak.
In the latest 5.x version the problem is back! Is anyone having luck with a registry/property file tweak in 5.x? Talking about such issues. With 2.x channel changing worked great. Not in 5.x anymore, very choppy. Is this related? (BTW, if it matters, I'm not using OSD) Last edited by metropole; 05-27-2006 at 05:03 AM. |

Here is my update on this problem
First, I am still using Sage 2.something because it works pretty well and I'm going with the if it aint broke (much) don't fix it mentality. I changed the numbufs to 8 as I stated in one of my posts above. I still get the high CPU condition at the end of a file but ... This makes it so that SAGE returns me to the programs menu where I can select a different program and start it - which helps me eliminate the end of file bug. Although the pointer moves slowly while doing this with the remote. If I choose to stop the program at the end of file, my system reboots. |
