My installation instructions for ComSkip on our SageTV home server.


[ COMSKIP ]


Description:

    A program that simply scans a single file and generates a text file containing
    the time indexes of any automatically detected commercials.


1. Extract Comskip to:

    C:\PVR\Comskip




[ DIRMON2 ]


Description:

    A service (e.g. background program) that monitors the recorded TV folder for
    new video files that COMSKIP can process.


1. Install DirMon2.

2. Right-click on its Start Menu shortcut, select Properties, and then configure
   the shortcut's Compatibility tab to Run as Administrator.

3. Run DirMon2.

4. Go to Job Management and create a new Job profile, with the following options:

    Directories:

        the recorded TV folder, uncheck Search Subdirectories

    Program to Run:

        C:\PVR\Comskip\comskip.exe

    Targets:

        mpg

    Command-line Options:

        --ini=C:\PVR\Comskip\comskip.ini --playnice

    Resources Required:

        25

5. File -> Save

6. Go to Global Settings and configure the following options:

    Polling Time in Seconds:

        10

    Start automatically at bootup:

        Yes

7. File -> Save

8. Get the service running:

    click Install, then click Start


Note:

    Once its process has been installed and started, DirMon2 will display
    a list of current and pending jobs in its Current Status tab.




[ STV PLUGIN ]


Description:

    Adds a few UI enhancements (e.g. icons and progress bar segments) that give
    some indication of where the commercial breaks occur.


1. Extract the STV Plugin folder.

2. Copy the new folder's STVs and JARs subfolders into the SageTV folder.

3. Restart SageTV:

    - Quit SageTV MC.
    - Stop the SageTV service.
    - Start the SageTV service.
    - Open SageTV MC.

4. Go to Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Advanced -> Manage STVI plugins and follow
   the instructions to enable the Comskip_Playback.stvi file.

6. Go to Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Customize -> ComSkip Playback Options:

    Auto skip commercials:

        Disabled

    Pause playback before Skipping:

        Disabled

    Show Timeline on Skip:

        Disabled

    Left/Right Arrow Skip:

        Disabled

    Start on Watch:

        Disabled     (<-- DIRMON2 does this better)

    Manual Comskip:

        Disabled     (<-- DIRMON2 does this better)

    Debug Logging:

        Disabled


Note:

    The STV plugin process has to be repeated on each client computer so that
    all computers can take advantage of the UI improvements in SageTV.
